THE TIC) AN OX E NE"'C- W W. MAM, J. W. nLKDoK, 1'llurilIKTOkS. TQU1WDAV, :: XOVKMltKK 1 UsO. A oiue Inch en in Tesi. A C"IJ ttliulder from tbe North. The South can Hand it. John Kki.ly will not hue any hand in nuking the next Democratic Presi dent of the United States. EVKRT good patriot will sincerely hope that the bar'! of th late Wot H Eiglish, of Iodiaoe, baa survived bin. GknkiiAL Hancock make the fourth defeated Democratic candidate for the PresiJency now living. The other three re General McClcllan, who was beaten in 1KC4; Horatio Seymour, who ran io 1RC8, and Mr. Tilden. TdK Democracy of the SXatt and na tion hat had a large mum of riper ience with "halls" io the lait two jears. That eipcrience has been a bitter one. It satisfies thoroughly in one feme. Iiu't it ahnat time for the Democracy of tbe State and of the nation to dis- le partnership with the hellT I'lattf borg Republican (Detn.,) November 13 TtlEItK is no royal road to afetory. We anuit itacd to our colon. We aaust eipect reverses. Tao longest lane, however, has a turn. Let us con tinue to grow in wealth, increase in population, found new manufacturing establithroents, build up our own cities and still adhere tn tbe principles whiib we beliee to be those upoo which the Government was founded. Richmond Despatch (Hern ,) November 12. It is certain, in any respect of the eae. that the Democrats of New York h pfp ie to collect the evidence aa to the fairness of election and present it I the public and to the Crgrss, are ctin aa wise and patriotic cil iitns of a free republic They say they can es tablish certain fads, thr-y propose to pr. November 1. . a KxFknatuu Ci:i mvk.i.l, of Man lanrt, thinks that the policy of the in coming adtoii iitratioii towards the 8 'Uth would be fair and coi cilialorv, and that lien, Garfield would try to build an ii fluential sentiment in the South to the H-puhliran party, Mr (Veawell said he wool. I aJ.iso Gen. Garfield to pursue such a course. If tlii should be d me the whole pol icy of the K -puSlican party would have to Chang from what it ha been for the past forty or fifty ye.ir, and we doubt if the Malwarts headed by such men n Coiikling, Cam. run and L '(jan would permit it. So we cannot go over to the Repub. I can party. At the r'nk of being con sidered a fool, or worse, we must decline the invitation to discount everything in favor of success. Nevertheless, though never win a viitorj though we never get an ( ITice we hope tube of some service to nur country and our time. May not a man, may not a party, be useful in opposition? la there not uch a thing as disinterested, bonel conviction? What sort of government ehml.l we hive if all of us belonged to One party? A despotism, of course; and yet that is precisely what nur Re publican friends ask us to do. We lender theto our regrets, with many lhatikt;bat we prefer to remain out in the cold. Every one to his taste ; with in we quarrel with nobody. We merely contend for nur beliefs, hoping that, in time, we ahall fiud ourselves better mounted and equipped than we are at present. Louisville Courier Journal, Dew. - v Til K time aiust come at some period before the present century ba closed when all national men will learn that the war is ntr'. ami when the ilullni under sta ll n will be shli- to apprehend that the disposition t tra:if) s-ciio'ial hi tred by Mrling wanton and suiciilal blows at sister Sulci is Iras aitive 'n the South than in tlx N oth. ( homewiird in crowds from Cililornir. This is doe it is supposed partly from fear, and partly perhaps on account of tbe scarcity of work. Nearly six hundred have already left and as many more will leave by the next steamer. They give as their ri -sons for returning to China that the American people are unfriendly, and that extensive public improvement! which are being made in China will give them work at home. The celestials evidently take little stock in the Garfield cheap labor letter unless they think that his promises like drcarns "go by contraries." The peo. pie of California are doubtles io a state "f j y- aa KM'I III.M A MM AM Dl .nO- It IT. For years patl it has bean a habit io this c unty for Democrats tn become sureties mi the ullicial bonds of Repub licans office holders. This custom bss always seemed to us inconsistent. We do not presume to say that one man has no right to stand security for an other bo the circumstances what they may. Hot we do thi.ik it, from a po litical stand point, ao inexcusable piece ol folly. It is useless for Democrats to denounce the principles of the Repub lican party no the stump, io club-meetings and in Legislative halls and then by helping thera give their ollicial b nidi to support them in carrying out the very same pernicious doctrine. We nominate nur candidates work hard to elect tbem in order to save the country from the curse of RidicalisT, and yet when the election! are over we enable the leaders of Radicalism to continue in power. It looks to us if we talked one thing and did another. We have no ill feelings for a single Republican io this country, many of those we know, in fact most of them, are friendly with us and we hope this state of things will continue, but when it comes to politics we believe Demo crats should stick to their principles. If Democrats, one and all, refuse to put their names to the bonds of Re publican officials it will be bard for them to qoilily. Why then should Democrats do so ? Are there any rea sons why it should be done? Not on the other hand political prudence would teach us to refrain from doing any thing of the kind, it weakens tbe party. II iw cin a man stand a Republican's bond at one time and at another time ask the people not to tote for bim because his political principles are dan-g-rous to tbe liberties of the people? It is inc insistent to use every p s-ible means to defeat a man a d theo give bim every means of triumphing. Had Democrsts declined Continuslly to become such sureties we would bsve bad Democratic slier ff for years past. If the Democrats wish to preserve the party in tact they must make distinction between members of their owa party and Republicans and there is no way of doing this snore (ff ctually than by refusing aid to establish them in office. A plaintiff in a case would hardly supply money to the defendant to pros ecute his suit ; and yet it amounts to the same thing when Democrats sign ollicial bonds for Republicans. We hope no Democrat will,do this. M A4.IM1 KATKN. The Legislature meets in January and among other duties appoints one third of the magistrates of each county to fill terms winch expire at that time Tl e magistrates so appointed bold olfice for six years. We ofTer this soggrstion for whst it is nnh. PARTY flOI.VK.tlTN. We copy from tbe Richmond Sute under tbe above caption the following article which to us seems pertioent and timely. We hope nur readers will read aud consider it carefully : There is no little idle talk, both local and gmeral. North and South, about creating a new party. It is silly as well as idle. Parties are not made; they grow, and they grow slowly. Fully R:ty vears ago the germ of what is now tbe R"pablican party was pLinted by tbe abolitiooists, spread by tbe l'etilioo struggles, gained strength hy tbe Fiee soil party, yielded to the Missouri com promise, gained vigor from the repesl of that compromise, and brought forth in due time the candidacy of Fremont ai d tbe election of Lincoln. No man nor set uf men sn'td at an; one time. L"t us hsve a new party, hut cer'.a'n ideas slowly attracting the symp thy of the people becaruo the solvent of old nrgmozitioii and the creator of a new and livin; force in politics. Not een Mr. J. ff, rson nor lien. Andrew J.ickson, the two greatest party leaders this country has teen, cnuld make on s sudden a new party H uh of them had to avoid auy starting departure from the system they found exislirg and which they finally over threw, and for both of them years were necessary to weld into compact strength the masses whom they led to share their their opinions and to help to tbe end they purposed. Til change the existing state of thing, therefore, in which two vigorous parlies Confront each other, cannot be hoped except from a gradual change resulting not from Caucus management, but from the growth of ideas. Aud, in truth, the situation is such that a change may be looked for with ul a change ol names. The Republicans have carried every idea they started with ; they have largely influenced constitutional interpretation; they hive not less largely changed the Constitution itself they have settled much that was suKject of party debate but they have left untouched the civil service abominations where they hue have not aggravated ihem, they are d vidsd on tariff questi mi and they have Contrived to alienate from them and to en bitter for at least a generation the domi-ant class in one-third of the coun try. If the Democracy but possess it self again aa it was possessed before the war of definite ideas, if it comet before the country with clear conviction as to fi lance.iuxatioi (customs aud internal, re euue) is to the civil tervice, navigation laws laws and foreign polmy, then and then only will the country aee a new parly, whether its name be a new nr old ; then and then only will there be introduced a solvent to loosen the I listing orgsuiss tiont North and South, to undo sec tional line, and to base new formation of psrty power on tbe solid ground (f belirt m iciest. Jhe Republican party w oild in that case have no Io iger rra a hi to exist as such. Solid North and S ilid South would be laid away with such terms as the I'nited S ates Rmk the Fugitive Slave Liw, Nullification Secession, Reconstruction and llloody Shirt. MARKETS. Wm.hoN.N. c. Not.
