It has been the custom of this paper to point out, in a bri-l' sjnopsi", the salient pointt of ih" President's message. But the mc-sag.. to the 5'Jth Congress is so lengthy (soue 25000 w .rd-) aDd so full of manor of interest to all the American people, that we feel we could not do it justice in our limited spaco. The great majority of the American people, irrespective of their party affilia tions and prejudices, will squarely endorse every word President Roosevelt has writ ten on (he great question of interstate eomraerce reform. Under the geneial head of the oontrol of corporations, the president clearly points out tha plain duty of Congress to exercise a proper regulative control of all large corporate interests whose business is of an interstate character. He shows the futility of attempting to regulate such corporations by State legislation a fail ure that is patent to every intelligent American citizen. Incidentally, President R lotevelt p jints out the evils of trust organ unions, par ticularly that of overcapitalizition. The people ol the South will accept as a gnoolul aot President Ruosorelt's recommendation that the graves of Con federate soldiers be oared fir by the Fed- eral government the same as the graves of Federal soldiers They will also wirm iy approve his generous support of the Jamestovn Exposition, and the interest he exhibits io behalf of S luthcrn devel opment through the diversion of good foreign immigration to the States of this section.
