The la dies of Circle of the Baptist church held a most profitable par cel post sale Friday and served plenty of good things to eat. They cleared quiie a neat sum for their new church and the members of the circle wish to thank every one who aided in any way in making the occasion pleasant and successful. Announcement. See their advertisement of pictures for the ensuing week. Preparing to Leave. Much regret is felt here that Rev. Albert New has resigned as rector of Grace church to accept a call to w'aynesville. Mr. New preached iwo excellent sermons here Sun day and he has been busy this week packing up his household goods preparing to leave for his new field of work. The best wish es of the community will go with him and his excellent family to their new home. While You WAiT.-Speaking f quick work L. Kittner made a record Thursday unapproachable by the fastest machine in existence. He half-soled a pair of shoes and delivered them at our office in fifteen minutes from the time he took them to his shop. It was nice job, too, and all polished up according to the latest method in shoe making. No other shoe ma ker ever did or ever can beat this record made by Mr. Kittner in hit fiectric shoe shop. ! Store Broken Into. -Thieves entered the store of the Pierce- Whiiehead Hardware Company Sunday night 0r early Monday morning and carried away a num ber of Hue double barrel shot guns and other goods, in all probability. The guns are the main goods that were missed by the firm Monday morning when they opened the store for business. They appear to have entered and left by a win dow in the second story of the building. Welcome to Weldon. We are pleased to welcome G. S. Ken nard, of Richmond, Va., to Wel don. Mr. Kennard succeeds Mr. Wall at ihe Central office, here, of the Home Telephone Company, and lie is experienced and most efficient in handling the business of the office. Mr. Ke'hfiard finds Weldon is a delightful place lo live in, and is willing io admit that it is next io Richmond. After he has been here a few more months he will be willing to admit that Wel don comes first and Richmond next. Fine Record. Rev. A. G.Wil cox, of Brinkleyville, was in town a few days ago on his way to Lou isburg to attend the Tar River Bap tist Association in session at that place. It was his fiftieth association, and he has attended everv meptino ' fc for the past fifty years with the ex ception of iwo, and this session made his forty-first without a break. He is secretary and treasurer of the association which office he has held for nearly forty years. This a record Brother Wilcox is proud of and we trust thai he may be able io attend many more sessions of the Association. Married. U. L. Brvan. the affable, polite and efficient baggage master at the Union station, and Miss Reba Upton, pretty and at tractive, who has been at the Cen tral office here for some lime, were married ai the Central house, Sun day afiernoon, by Rev. Albert New, rector of Grace church. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan left soon after the ceremony for Norfolk io spend a few days and from there they will go to Parmale, Mr. Bry- ans's former home, on a short visit to relatives, and will be at home io their Weldon friends after the 20th. We extend our best wishes and congratulate Mr. Bryan on his good fortune in winning so charm ing and popular a bride. Died Suddenly. Louis K. Dickens, a well known farmer of the Aurelian Springs section, fell dead suddenly in Cohen's drug store Thursday. Mr. Dickens appeared to be in his usual health and cheerful spir its when lie came to l elclon. Alter transacting some business at ihe Bank of Weldon he went into the drug store snd was in conver sion with Dr. I. E. Green at ihe lime of his sudden end. I lis sudden death was a shock to his many relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife and one daughter and several grand children. Duval, on Cedar j street, was entirely destroyed by fire Friday morning, about one o'clock. The fire was discovered i by a colored man, who ran to ihe house and woke Mr. Duval up. i The lire had made considerable : headway when it was discovered and every member of the family was asleep The timely arrival of the negro probably saved ihe ives of members nl the lamily. The hre fighters did heroic work alier i.itir -r.ival upon me scene, and most of the furniture was saved, more or less in a damaged condition. The loss is about $2,- 100 on which there was $1,500 insurance. Mr. and Mrs. Duval have the sympathy of the commu nity in their loss. Halifax Daughters. The "ulsr monthly Meeting of ihe Halifax Chapter U. D. C. was held the home of Mrs. N. L. Sted- man, in Halifax, on Thursday afternoon. As ihe president, Mrs. Susie N. urgerson, was absent, the meet- ig was called to order at 4 o clock ihe first vice president, and not- ihstanding the very inclement eather, eleven members were present.
