A very painful and peculiar j accident occurred to a well-known colored iuau by lihe nariae of Joseh Hostler, a route agent en the AVilmington & AVcldon R. It was thought th it he was killed and as soon as tho train could be stopped and backed he was taken uj and carried on board, wheu it was found ; that his left shoulder was badly bruised, but that no other injuries Were sustained ynless there were some internal hurts. He was taken ou to Weldou 'aud laced under surgical treatment and last night telegraphed here that he was "all right." His escape from instant death was- truly marvelous. 1 r Last Night's Fire. The fire alarm which was sounded about 7 o'clock last evening, was caused by the burning of a quantity of rosin, crude tur- ndntine 'and spirits, a distillery and a naval store shed on the AYest side of the river, opposite the foot of Q ueeti st ree t, the property of Mr. C. W. McClammy. Tho fire was first discovered on the shed of the still, but j owing to the absence of available assistance ami the light wind, which was from the jpouth West, the fire spread rapidly, destroying between 3,000 and 4,000 barrels of rosin, about 400 barrels of turpentine aud jj30 casks of spirits.
