to immediately withdraw the troops that
the news of the. Cabinet's ad verse le-

From very' good authority it appears
,that the projected commission emanated

with Hayes, to whom he propounded the
idea, and at. the hitter's request subse

that it; would be perfect acceptable to the

is received with the most indignant antag

The Packard Senate consists of seventeen
Returning Board members, two less than

After obtaining a quorum; of, the .Senate

there existed in New Orleans, the capital

conspiracies and combinations to obstruct
the execution of the laws, as evidenced by

the State arsenals and the Supreme Court
of the State, and calling upon the Presi

WILMINGTON, N. C, FRIDAY, A;
In the time of Jobit is said by the

struck some of ityesterday,
It walked
with a cane.
We are glad to learn that the prospects
in the interior of the State, as well as in he
West arc thus far good f-r a fine fruit
crop this year.
There has been a great deal oC rain in
the cbuntry bordering on the upper waters
of the Cape Fear and we may look for a
freshet early next week.
Lent will be over n the first of April,'
and then our piously inclined friends can
resume the gaitiea and festivities of the
German and oter "light fantastic"
amusement.".
The telephone will soon revolutionize
domestic affairs, for the man,in stead of
blushingly telling his wife at the supper
table that he will be detained at his office,
can go down town and whisper' through
the telephone that it is lodge night.
The Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph
Company; a formidable rival of the West
ern Unioi Telegraph Company, is rapidly
extending its liue South, and will reach
Richmond and Norfolk very shortly.
Opposition is the life of trade.
Considerable interest is manifested to
know when that "tail? . in Wednesday's
Review is to be concluded, and our answer
is that it is now, not a monkey's tail but
& Mayor's tail, aud the end is , not yd. J ust

We understand that Mr. Ileaton, who
was defeated for ' Alderman in the First
Ward by Mr. F. W. Foster, by a majority
of wily three voUs, has determined to con
test the election and upon the following
grounds, as he informs us himself:
1st. That F. W. Foster did not receive
a majority of the votes of the qualified
voters of the First Ward.
2d. That he is' hot a bona fide resident
of said Ward and is ineligible,
j5d. That he perpetrated bribery to se-

4th. That the result of the balloting in
the lower division of the First jWard ,was
not officially declared by the poll-holders
at the proper voting place after the termi
