Motion was put aud carried. - Alderman Foster nominated Hon. John Dawson for Mayor in quite a complimen tary speech. Alderman Hill seconded Mr. Dawsou's nomination. Alderman Myers nominated Dr. H. G. Planner for Mayor. Alderman Hill moved that the nominations elese and that the election be made viva voc: Ihc Chair declared that unconstitutional!' Alderman Hill then withdrew the motion. Upon the announcement off tho result there were manifestations of applause and cries of "Hurrah for Dawsoif,', from the crowd gathered in the Court Room. The police ofticcrs, however, checked the de monstration and the business proceeded. , Alderman Hill moved that a committee be appointed to conduct the Honorable Mayor-elect to the chair. At the conclusion of the' Mayo .'a remarks he resumed the Chair," the ex -Mayor being asssigued a seat near by on the left. The regular order of business was then proceeded with-. Alderman Planner moved that the City Clerk and Treasurer be authorized to ad vertise through" the city papers that all applications for positions under, the City Government, must be sent in to the office of the City Clerk and Treasurer. Motion carried.' The Mayor then appointed Aldermen Planner and Foitcr, an llvecutlvo Com mittee to examine the books and papers of the city. . After some little discussion, it,wa"s finally decided b' the Board to .ad journ until next Thursday, when an, elec tion would take place for City Clerk and Treasurer, and Chief of Police. The May or thcu turned to . the City Clerk and told Jiiui that he would. bo iu attend ance at the City Court room to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock, but that he hoped there would be nothing for him to do. After a few jovial remarks by his (new) honor, and a geueral laugh all around, the meeting was declared adjourned. The Last Meeting of the Old Hoard. The'olil Board of Aldermen held their last niceting at - the City Hall yesterday afternoon; they having been called together by the Mayor: ' " The report Of the. Auditiug Cunmdlteo was presented, stating that they had counted and destroyed the city coupons, amounting to $3,C90 29, which report was received aud approved. The Mayor then presented diis report, embracing the four years of his .adminis tration, from' the 12th of May,- 170, to the 12th of May, 1877, together with the report of the Treasurer, Marshal. Chief of the Fire Department, and other reports of the various departments, which were re ceived, approved jmd ordered to be printed in pamphlet form.
