A chicken snake about three feet in length dropped in on the ladies of the family at a residence on South Front street yesterday afternoon. Ho walked, or rather crawled, boldly into the front door but was discovered before he had made ' much progscss. One the ladies who wore present seized a stick and advanced to strike it, when the snake threw ont its head and hissed and the stick was dropped. I But it was caught up by another lady who advanced boldly to the encounter and with a few well directed blows disDatched his snakeship. City Court. The first case called this morning wars that of a white man, charged with disor derly conduct, in that be beat. his wife and committed other acts of equally infa mous character, all of which, ve are re quested not publish. We comply with the request and forbear to publish names, simply, on account of the party who made the request and not out f any respect or regard for this sex0nd edition of old Blue Beard. James Ivelly, colored, was the next defendant arraigned. Kelly, it seems, has several counts against him. He was charged -with disorderly conduct aud re leased upou his own recognizance to ap pear at the Mayor's Court on Tuesday morning at nine o'clock, but failed to put in an appearance. The police, who have been on the look-out for the aforesaid Kelly ever since, yesterday succeeded in arresting him again. This time he was conveyed to the lock-up and held until the Mayor's Court convened this morn ing, at ?hich time ho was arraigned as before mentioned, aud upon two distinct charges, one of disorderly conduct and the otner IVr i"orleitinj u rvoznizance, or sentenced ine aiaresaia jxeiiy 10 oc confined on bread and water until the amount of the bond he forfeited viz. $50, is paid. Pending the decision and execu tion of the sentence an officer appeared with a warrant for the body of James Kelly for the larceny of a watch from Deems Gilbert. Kelly will have his trial for larceny before a magistrate to-day. . Lewis Waddcll, colored, for being drunk and disorderly, was sentenced to 10 days' imprisonment on bread and waer.
