District Court will finish up the business
before it this aflernoon and adjourn.
Fifteen cargoes of salt have been re
ceived at this port since last July 1st, -just
four months ago, while but 13 cargoes 'of
the same were entered here for the entire
fiscaVyear ending last June 30th.

V superior Court.
The Superior Court is still occupied with
the trial of the murder case from Bladen
county, the evidence for the defense being
heard to-day. It is thought that the tria1
will hardly be concluded and a result
reached before the end of the term, which
will bo on Saturday evening.

Snake in the House.
Mr. Jno. G. Bauman found a large
chicken snake this morning comfortably
coiled up in the hallway of his residence,
corner Fifth and Dock streets. His snake-
ship was promptly dispatched and after
wards embalmed in spirits for exhibition.
He ' measured three feet and' three inches.

Vicious Dog. '
' Last evening, as 6nc of the route boys
ci the Review was delivering his papers
to subscribers, and while on Mulberry be
tween Filth and Sixth streets, a fierce dog
sprang over a fence and attacked him, bit
tho boy on the leg. Complaiuts were
lodged with the Chief of Folicc who this
morning sent a policeman with the boy to
point out the vicious canine.
U. S. District Court.
The attention' of His Honor Judge
Brooks was directed this morning to pass
ing judgment upon Chas. L. Law-ton, who
was charged with ernbczzolmcnt of money
front the Postoffico at Magnolia, and who
plead guilty to the charge. The sentence
was 12 months at hard work in the peni
tentiary at Sing Sing ; also to the case of
Conrad Housman, who is charged with
obtaining a' letter from the Pustofilce in
this city through fraud and deceit, 'i his
case was set for hearing this afternoon at
3 O'clock. ; i 1
, ' City Court.
The first case called this morning was
that, of Fanny Gore, spoken of a few days
since. His Honor said $3 fine.
.A' young colored man who was arrested
asked a continuance of his case, which
was granted.
rul Webster, white, a scafuring man,
was Adjudged to be guilty of 3 worth of
disorderly conduct and ordered confined
until paid. 1 )
John E. Shaw and W. Ti Finch, ar-1
rested for creating a disturbance at Lip
pitt's Hall, by officer Green, last night
were brought before His Honor this morn
ing. ; Shaw was discharged and Finch
was Ordered into tho cell for 25 days, un
less he pay la fine "of $25 J
Dennis Betts, who was one of the par
ticpants in the aforesaid row, but who
had probably been, released upon bail, was
non est this morniug but .will probably
put in an appearance to-morrow morning
by virtue of Mayor Dawson's order to the
police, which was to arrest Betts on, sight.
His Honor, after concluding his case tins
morning, looked as though1 he was glad;
tho last one had been disposed , of, and
he seized his hat and slapped it on his head
with i a vim, when ho stepped down
from; his judicial seat. This of course
indicated that the Court had adjourned.
