The Adjutant-General of the State, by order of the Governor, the Commander in Chief, has issued the following orders re lative to the organization of the colored military companies into battalion organ izations. -It will be seen that the com panies in ,this city will form part of the Fifth Battalion and that the election lor field officers is to tako place in this city on Wednesday, the 21st inst : GENERAL HEADQUARTERS, State of North Carolina KaZeigh, Nov. 8th f IS 7 7 : General Orders No. 17. I. In accordance with the sixth sec tion of the "Act for the establishment of the North Carolina State Guard," the colored volunteer company organizations now existing shall be organized into battalions as follows: , IN THE FRST DISTRICT. The Oak City Blues, Newborn Rifle Cadets, Newbern Guards and Oberlin Yance Guard, shall constitute the Fourth Battalion N. C. S. G., and each of the above named companies shall ho designa ted by letter as follows : Company A, Oak City Blues. ! B, .Newborn Kmc Cadets. C, Newbern Guards D, Oberlin Vance Guard. IN THE SECOND DISTRICT : The Hanover Light Infantry, Cape Fear Light Infantry, Howard Light In fantry, Fayetteville Riflo Guard, and Charlotte Blues shall constitute the Fifth Battalion N. C. S. G., and each of the. abovo named companies shall be designa ted by letters as follws : Company A, Hanover Light Infantry. " B, Cape Fear Light Infantry. " C, Howard Light Infantry. " D, Fayetteville Rifle Guard. E, Charlotte Blues. ' 11. In pursuance cf section six (C) of the act above named, the company oflicers of the Fourth Battalion N. C. S. G., arc hereby warned to appear at Goldsboro on Wednesday, the 21st day of November, 1877, for the election of a major for said battalion. The company oflicers of the Fifth Bat talion, N. C. S. G., arc hereby warned to appear at Wilmington en Wednesday, the 21st day of November, 1877, for the election of a lieutenant-colonel and major for said battalion. Each commissioned officer in 'the re spective battalions will be entitled to one vote, and may be represented by proxy in the election above ordered. Tho meeting will be-presided over by the senior officer present. The proceed ings will bo certified by the president and secretary, and forwarded to this office. And I earnestly invoke the people to suspend as far as may be practicableall secular business, and to assemble together on that day in their usual places of wor ship for religious services, and to remem ber that our praises will be incomplete unless with a liberal hand we also relieve the poor, the widow and the orphan.
