On motiou of Commissioner Grainger, the Assessor was instructed to make a re port in regard to Mr. McHary's valuation of real estate at the- next meeting tf the Board. It was resolved that the Sheriff be re quested to fi ruish to the Finance Commit tee of this Board a list of errors dicovered in the taxjbooks for the current year, so that if the cputract fur the tax books has not been carried out said committee may recommend to this Board such reclama tion from the contractors as may seem to them just and equitable. j . ...Communication of C. A. Ilamner, executor of D. K, Futch, in reference ,to taxes, was ordered referred to the Chair man and Commissioner Sanders, with power to act. Several other matters in reference t,o taxes were disposed of, when the Board adjournel to meet again on the first Mon day in December at 11 o'clock A. M. ' The following order passed the Board in session asla Board of Education: Wiieulas, The School Committee for Wilmington, during the pastyear, did ap propriate and use of the.Peabody fund in their hands belonging to the white race the amount of five hundred dollars in the payment of teachers of the colored race, and therewith did pay orders to the said amount of $500, which should have been paid by the County Treasurer ; and, whereas, the said committee, on their re tirement from office, did place said orders on tho County Treasurer in the hands of their successors, . . Now, therefore, it is advised and ordered thatthe County Treasurer pay to the pres ent School Committee, for the use of the white schools the said orders, amounting to $500. and charge the same against the colored schools, and that said orders be cancelled and filed with the clerk of this Board. , . Accident to a Train of Cars Bolonjr7 ins to the W., C. &. A. R. 11., at the General Freight Depot. An accident happened to a train of cars on the W.. C. & A. Railroad, at the General Freight depot,on Nutt street, yes terday afternoon, which resulted in a loss to the Company of about $1,200 or $1, 500. The accident occurred just as all accidents will occur sometimes, simply by a mere misunderstanding between the shifting engineer and the engineer ofthe train to which the accident happened. The train which hal just arrived iWaS detached from the engine which brought it; this was done because it vu thought tho shifting engine had hold of the train at the other end and here is where the mis understanding occurred. The train, how ever, being detached from everything, started down grade, gathering force and impetus with caclr revolution of tho car wheels, until finally three flat cars were launched in the river, two of which struck against the Germau barque Star of Hope lying near the end of the wharf at the time. The first two cars, which were flats containing wokI, were 'plunged into the river,: the third car, which jumped the track at the trestle, was loaded with tar. part of which only followed the wood into the water. The Company's employes have been fishing up the wood and tar this morning. About half of the wood, and nearly all the tar have been recovered, so the loss is principally the cars, which are broken all to pieces; the car wheels, how ever, can be gotten up again, so that the real loss and damages will not exceed $if' 200r $l,500. , ; ' Warm enough to-day for open windows, cold stoves and ice-water. Sampson Fain We acknowledge the uception of an invitation to attend "the Thirteenth An uual Fair of the Sampson County Agri cultural Society to be held at Clinton on the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th of Decem ber, and are glad to learn that tho indi cations are good for a very large attend ance. The deposi tions will be forwarded to Raleigh in a few days, as soon as they can be prop erly arranged. ',..-' . The Cumberland Fair., From Capt. Green, of the steamer North State, who left Fayetteville yesterday morning, we learn that our iriends in Cumberland are rJcctiug with great suc cess in their County Fair. On Tuesday, which was the opening day, a great many entries had been made, and ruoro were still coming in at that time. The streets in Fayetteville were ful of strauge faces, and the counties of Moore, Harnett, Bladen, Robeson and other counties con tiguous thereto, were well represented. The Gov. Worth on Tuesday carried up parties on their way to attend the Fair, as did the Murchison on yesterday. On the whole, Capt. Green thinks the Fair quite a success, fully meeting the expectation of its friends, if not exceeding them in point of success. To-day (Thurs day) is expected to be the gala day, and to-night the grand ball is to take place at Williams' Hall, where tho beauty and chivalry of the old Capo Fear country will be well represented, and grace the occur rence by their presence.
