A .Lot of Cotton.
'lhere were 32,018 bales of cotton
on hand yesterday at this port. This,
at uu a Daie caicuiaiing tne average
at 500 pounds to the bale and 10 eta a
pound for the cotton) makes the nice
little sum of $1,630,900.
- The frrowmer importance of VVil-
mmgton as a cotton market is thus
plainly apparent and, judging the im
mediate future by the standard of chis
year ana the last, the indications are
favorable for a still larger business in
cotton next year. A large proportion
of the staple is shipped from this port
direct to foreign countries and when
we get next year the new Compresses
wnich are to be erected all in good
working order, it is doubtful if thev
will be able to do moie than keen ud
