Sorvoss was at tacked near the corner of lhird and Dock streets, by some parties ; unknown. who dealt him a severe blow with a stick from the rear, which felled him to the ground. Mr. Scrvoss heard steps behind him. but thought no harm until he was knocked dawn. For the first time in tho history of the State and of the people, the Supreme Court of North Carolina has been called upon to examine a female applicant for a license to practice law. The lady in question made application last Tuesday, alon" with a number of male students , buttbe Court held the matter in abeyance until argument - as to their right to erant this license.
