Full weight and strength, economical, ahd never failing in excellent results-. j A Slight Freshet. There u a slight freshet iu the North west Cap Fear now. The iver began to rise at Fayetteville on Monday morning, and has probably readied its highest to-day. It is thought that fivo jfeet will cover the increase of water at that' point. . Steam boatmen accept . tbs' situation and there will probably be good boating water for a long time to come, or at least until Siring nnens. ;! Annual Export Table We are indebted to Col. John L. Cant well, Secretary of the Produce Exchange, for a copy of his annual export table just printed which gives a 'statement- of the principal articles of produce and manu facture exported from the. port of Wil mington, N. C, to points out of the State, for the year ending Dec. 31st, 1877, and compared with the year 187G, 1875 and 1874. j Also, the receipts of a few articles for the same period, with a .note of the shipping for 1877. The table is complete correct and comprehensive ami evidences a Ion" period vf anxious care in its coin- pilation. It should prove invaluable io the mercantile fraternity. It was print ed by Mr. S G. Hull, book and job printer, and the mechanical execution is very superior, equaling the best figure work we have ever seen anywhere. City Court- ti.. .,r tlm two colored women, A l-il VUOVy S .1 Mdllie Waddcll. arraign- ed for. disorderly conduct yesterday morn- ing before His Honor the Mayor, and sen tenced to pay a fine j of ten dollars, which sentence was suspended, at re quest of counsel for defendants until to-day, was called this morning at 10 o'clock. After some little .argument and talk by the counsel for the defend ants, who by the way seems to be earning his fee in this case) judgment was again suspended until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock owing to the fact that there seems to be some talk 'of compromising in the case before the Mayor, and that to come up before the next term of the Crim inal Court between the same parties. The women Hester Swann and Mollic Waddell were again released on their own recognizance to appear to-morrow morn ing at 10 o'clock. It seems to our understanding that the city authorities have shown a good degree of leniency in this matter, and have evinced a desire to be actuated in the set tlement of this difficulty by none other than, motives of justice. ' Rut we do begin 'to ''question very seriously whether it is becoming the dignity of the Court to make a further postponement of ihe case, waiting on the whims of the defendants In fact it seems to us that it would be establishing a good precedent lor the city authorities" to refuse any compromise whatever, and let these disturbers of the peace understand that they propose to fight this matter out to the j bitter end in justification of the conduct of their officials. It would save, we think, trouble in the future, and serve as a warning to all those who are inclined, to do wrong. j- I. O. G.S, and D. ors. At the regular meeting of Mt. Yesterday afternoon, about 2 o'clock, a house occupied by Mr. John Jones, an employoof the W. & W. It- 11 Co , on Dickinson Hill, betwe-n Urunswick and Harnett streets, was found to be on fire. No gencral.alarm was given, but thosa who were near at hand ' succeeded in getting I "WV "" w wa1r on the flames, aud nut out the fire. The origin of the fire is unknown. It was found between the weather-boarding and the ce iling aud is thought to have probably been caused by rats and mate es. A Pretty Mantlepiecc Ornament. A pretty ornament may be obtained by suspending an acorn by a piece of thread tied around it, within half an inch of the surface of some water contained in a vase, tumbler, or saucer, aud allowing it to re main undisturbed for several weeks. It will soon burst open, and small roots will seek the water; a straight and tapering stem as beautiful as thoss of the oak. The water should . be changed once a month, taking care to supply water of the same warmth; bits of charcoal added to it. will prevent the water from souring. If the little leaves turn yellow, put a grain of nitrate of ammonia in, the utensil which holds the water, and it will renew their luxuriance. Hotel Arrivals. PuiiCELL House. Wilmington, N. C.
