Curious Facts, j I It may perhaps be hot uninteresting to the general readers of the Holy Bible, who are not acquainted with the fact; to know that the 10th chapter of the 2nd Book' of Kings, and the 37th chapter of Isaiah, are alike. The Book of Esther haft ten chap ters, but neither the words Lord nor God are in it. The 21st verse of the 7lh chap ter of Ezra has in it all the letters of the alphabet. j I Happy Cal Waencr. Funny Cal Wagner, with his fine troupe of performers, will open in the Opera House to-morrow evening. He is good and we know it for, we have had him here before. If jyou want to laugh and grow fat he will fill the bill for you, or at least he will, furnish tho Jaugh part. Go and see him. He will give you a fine evening's entertainment and everybody ;' will enjoy. Thetxx now open at Heinsberger's. one that sheet is The St. Paul's concert. The grand concert spoken of For the benefit of St. Paul's P. E. Church,! to as sist in paying for the new organ, will take place at the Opera House! on the Friday evening of next week, February 8th. TliOjbest musical talent of this 'city vvil be represented uncler the able man agement of Prof. Van Laer, and the public may rest satisfied that no pains will be spared to produce a programme which will meet the high expectations already excited in regard to this Concert. A rehearsal for pianos and orchestra will take place at the City Hal to-night. J 1 1 Probable Conflict. r It, is understood here that His Honor Judge Moore, now temporarily presiding in this district, has appointed Mr. A. V. Horrell;1 Republican, an ex-Sherifif of Pender county, as Clerk of the Superior Court for that county. This is done in the face of the fact that Mr. R. K. Bryan has already been appointed to that., posi tion by Judge McKay and it may involve a! conflict of authority which it will take the Supreme Court to decide. But in that caso Judges Reade and Rodman and Faircloth will not have an opportunity for expounding the law. . , ' The Iron Bridge at Weldon . We learn from the Norfolk Landmark that two spans of the new bridge on the Roanoke river, now in process -'of con- i 1 i struction at Weldou for the Seaboard Railroad Cornpanj, were scut out from Norfolk oh Saturday, and tho remainder of the structure will follow as fast as needed. The contract for the bridge j i was awarded to the Pbtenixvillo Bridge Works, aud the. bridge was to have been up by the 1st of February, but in conse quence of the frequent floods the work has been delayed. ; It is expected that the structure will be completed by the lst'of March. - 1 ( f jj - j . j Never Play a Part. , Pu what you are, and do not be ashamed of it. If Heaven made you this, or that, or the other, you are that and nothing else. You aro only a plain mm . ' i I j person very well it is good to bo a plain person. At all evenji dont try to bo stylish, nor pretend, that your uuelo the shoemaker, was an English noble. You Have no "grand aspirations," no yearning after lofty -things, so don't pretend that you have. Neither roll your eyes, nor quote poetry that you do not understand. You can't play tho piano, then don't say you are out of practice. Out with your opinions. If you think a tiling wrong say so; don't wink at it be cause it is fashionable. Take the com men sense God has given you and use it. SomS silly persons may smile, but you will meet with some' one after a, while who will appreciate your truthfulness, and eay, "No humbug there," and take you at your true value. And if not, why, you will respect yourself, which a hum bug never does. Miss Mary Anderson. Notwithstanding the acttal1 inclemency of the .weather, Miss Anderson was greet ed last night with one of the largest and most fashioneble audiences of the season. And never was an audience better repaid for their attendance than by the rendition of the charming young tragedienne of the beautifully j drawn character of Evadne. She has improved greatly since hei apj pearance here two years ago, a fact vhich was fully apparent to her audiencfe last night. The only drawback to the, oc casion was that although well supported by MrJ Norton and one or two others ,Vbe troupe, as a whole, arenbfof theest ma teria1. Miss Anderson was repeated'.y called before the curtain last night an 3 each time there was a perfect oraiion of - I. appnuse. . To-night she will appear ,'as Parthenia in tha. delighful play of Ihgomar, and we can imagine no role she has yet assumed which will b9 more in consonance with her abilities. The public look to her for a great deal in this character, and we do not think there is any fear of their being dis appointed.5 ! 1 - The Railroad Meeting. A meeting of stockholders of the Wil mington & WeIon Railroad' Company, who feel themselves aggrieved at the failure of the Wilnington, Columbia & Augusta Railroad to pay the regular semi annual dividend of JJ per cent, agreed upon in the lease of that road, was held yesterday afternoon at the Produce Ex change with Mr. Z. Ittimer in the chair and Capt. A'. L. DeRosset as Secretary, About 3,000 shares of stock were repre sented. , i The object of the meeting was ex plained by the Chairman and a statement relative tq the matter was read by Mr Donald MacRae which, after some dis. cussion,.was accepted by the .meeting. 'A committee of sir, consisting of Messrs.1 Donald MacRae, D. R. Murchi son, W. Calder, I. B. Grainger, W. H McRary, and the Chairman of the meet ing, was appointed , to take such action iri .i ?j 1 : I J me premises as may seem to tnem ad visable for the promotion of the interests of the stockholders, after' which the meet- ing adjourned. Editor Review : I send you enclosed a , paper which I picked hp in the jury-room a few days ago which will explain itself. I learned since that a jury was locked up all night at last Criminal Court on a caso ,of cow beating, and being aggravated and unable to agree the enclosed was written, copied and sent to ' tho Judge presiding.
