APRIL 2, Never Known Before. Out ladies are turning their attention to the dry goods emporium of Mr. J. IIahn,on Fourth street, and irom the number who are seen on the street leadioz to Mr. Ilahn's establishment one wenld snppose the street was the principal promenade of the city. The fact is they are visiting and purchasing their goods from thi boose being able to get them tor a less price by reason of the fact that the store expenses are not as high on Fourth Street is they are down town. The estab lishment . presenta as - - large and as fine an assorted stock as can be found in the city and in these diys when ever, one is looking for "hard pin" prices buyers naturally turn their at- t3ntion to Mr. Ilahn's store as thev are sure to get goods cheap, and .have a fine stock to select from.- The rapidly diminishing piles of calico, hats and dress goods speak well for? the popularity of Mr. Hahn's goods and store. The yard wide piques andj cheap alpacas receive very.much attention from the gentler sex while " paterfamilias looks, sensibly on the yard wide bleaching with wonder and surprise at the very j cheap prices charged for them. With experienced, polite and attentive clerks customers can not fail to be well pleased. t Dangerous. A pew and dangerous" counterfeit $5 note is just reported as in circulation. It is on the Pocasset National Bank, Fall River, Massachusetts, of the "C," and dated January 2nd, 1865. There is a very general complaint all over the city about school children de facing the walls and fences of residences with chalk. In very many instances in decent pictures and obscene language has bjen written: Monday morning a couple of half-grown colored girls' were caught in the act of writirig very ob C3ne and dis gusting words on the fence of a residence on Fifth street. No doubt the practice is not alono indulged in by the colored school children and as it seems to be grow ing with a rapidity heretofore unknown in this cityj it should be put a stop to. A few police arrests of this kind of of fenderSjif not of the law, against sense and modesty, decency and propriety would have a very soothing effect upon the balance. r Largest and cheapest stock of corsets is the city at J. Hahn's, Fourth street, j t Market Report. Mr; L. M. Williams Clerk of the Mar ket, has submitted his report for tho pe riod running from June j26th, 1877, to April 1st, 1878, and has paid into the city treasury! for. that timo l$l,849 G3. This is a capital showing as compared with the reports made by G. W. Green, colored, the former incumbent of the office. For thesamo space of time, viz: from June 26th, 1876, to April 1st, 1877, Green paid in but 1,027 26, over eight hundred dollars less than Mr. Williams has rendered for the same period of time, notwithstanding the fact that under Democratic auspices there has been a reduction of $75 per month $900 a year) in the rents of stalls, &c. fhis looks something like . reform, and is cer:ainly complimentary to Mr. Williams' -honest and faithful discharge of his duties. j Returned Capt. N. H. Sprnnt returned here Jast evening from his regular Spring- visit to the Northern cities, made in the interest of his customers. He has purchased lots of new and pretty and cheap things and promises to make a grand display in a few days of all of those mysteries and miseries of millinery and white good, so dear to the average and the unaverage fer male heart. I Crocker? vs Cash. Giles & Mure bison's Messrs. retail crockery and glassware department will be open to tho public to-morrow evening, wheu evcrbody and his wife and children are invited to attend. The stock is a very handsome one and as it was all bought entirely for cash it will all be sold at very low prices for cash. , NO. 54 Hotel Arrivals. Purceltj House. Wilmington, N. C , April 1st.
