The sale of the cargo of lime ex-schooner Cattaioamteak, advertised for to-day by Messrs. Cronly & Morris, has been post. poned until Thursday next, the 16th inst., at which time it will take place at the foot of Orange street. We take pleasure in directing the atjten tion of 'the public to 1 5peer;s celebrated Port Grape Wine, a pure and unadultera ted article upon which every one may most implicitly rely. The services at St. j John's last night were unusally interesting. The Church was filled and there were fifteen clergy men, including the venerable Bishop of the Diocese, all in full canonicals. The sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Hale, Rector of Christs' Church , Ne wber n . The candidates for confirmation, eight in num ber, five ladies and three gentlemen, were presented by the Rector of the Parish, Rev. Geo. Patterson, D. D. Death fiom Paralysis Saturday afternoon Mrs. Frances C. Tracey, of New York, was stricken, with paralysis on the piazza at the residence of Rev. Dr. Watson, : on Market street. Mrs. Tracey was taken to the residence of Dr. E. A. Anderson, where she has been spending her winters for the past three or four years, and died in about eight hours alter the stroke. Her remains were taken to New York this morning and will be Interred in Greenwood Cemetery by the side of her husband. Mrs. Tracey was nearly seventy -five years of age, and her sudden death has east a gloom over her many warm friends in this community. . The County committee. A meeting of the recently elected mem bers of the Democratic County Executive Committee is called to meet at the office of DuBrutz Cutlar, Esq., on Wednesday, May 15th, 1878, at 4 o'clock P. M. The members of this Commit ee, with the exception of those from Federal Point township, from which there were no ap pointments, as announced at the Conven tion held on the 4th inst., are as follows: First Ward J J lyes, W D Mahn, W J Mott. Second Ward DuBrutz Cutlar, Wm Calder. Third Ward James W Collins; Mat thew! W Ileyer. i Fourth Ward O H Robinson, JohnW Atkinson. i Fifth Ward F H Darby, PTDicksey. iCape Fear.Township A J Grady. Harnett Township Gerrett Walker. asonboro Township -John J Farrow, The Castle Hayhe Pow Wow. The gathering of the Radical clans at Castle flayne on last Saturday afternoon is reported to have been fertile in the usual disagreements. Daring most of the time that locality was a Babel of confus sion.fcThe squabble first arose on the ap pointment of a Chairman, the rival factions putting forward H. E. Scott on the one side, and Joseph Sharpless on the other. Finally Scott withdrew, and Sharpless got the Chair. James Heaton, Bill Moore, Joe Hill, Sheriff Manning, i John Holt, John Sampson and others were the speak ers, jjhe greatest point ot contusion was when Geo. L. Mabson's friends want ed him to speak. This, the opposing fac tion were determined he should not do, and they brought forward John Sampson. The confusion then became riproariously confounded, and so excited were the , op ponents, that the rival speakers were lifted on the shoulders of their friend and borne towards the stand. But the crowd would not hear Mabson, and so Sampson got the floor. In the way of j business, it is said that literally nothing was accom plished. ! Fire This Mornln a A small frame building on the south east corner of Third and Wooster streets, owned and occupied as a store by Mr. Cornelius Jackson , was destroyed by fire, together with its contents, about 4 o'clock this morning. We have heard no theory advanced as to the origin of the fire. Mr. Jackson has been peculiarly unfortunate, having been burned out three times in the last four or five years. He was insured with Messrs. John W. Gordon & Bro., in the Home Protection, of Nortk Ala bama, for 8100 on the building, $250 on the stock and $50 on the store fixtures, fhich will hardly cover the amount of his loss. ! -H Suspended The Wilmington Dsmocrat has, we understand, suspended publication, no paper having been issued from that office on Saturday. We regret this as ; the Democrat hts proved a staunch party paper and would have exercised an in fluence for much good during the cam paign this summer The Raleigh News says: The "Inde pendent. Order of Sons and Daughters of Samaria,'' a local colored beneficial organ ization, gives an excursion frem this city to Wilmington on the 14th inst. The posters put the price per passenger at $3. MONDAY, MAY 13, Military Appointment. We learn that our young friend of Ser geant N. F. Parker, of the Wilmington Light Intantry, has received tbe appoint ment of Sergeant, Major of the Second Regiment N. O. S. G., from Col. C. W. Alexander, commanding. This is a well merited" compliment and the appointment will be hailed with pleasure by all who know Sergeant, Major Parker. Excursion To-Morrow- Don't forget the excursion to be given to-morrow to Smithville and Fort Caswell on the steamer Underhill. The boat will leave her wharf, foot of Orange street at 9 o clocfc and there will be a band of music on board, as well as refreshments at city prices. Tbe fare ,is only 75 cents for the round trip fof adults and 50 centa for children and Capt. Lippitt, the Manager, will use every exertion in his power to make the affair a pleasant one for all who may go. r B.B. and R. f i r The richest, rarest and most racy scene that it has been our good fortune to witness this season, was the meeting of tbe Re publican County! Executive Committee in the County Court House in this city to-day. Strong' personal advocates, both as to the nro?. and mns.. spoke at length 1 and frequently and after four hours,' discussion it was decided to hold a County Convention in this city on Saturday, May 25th. Oh 1 for the powers of BillingsJ The scene beg gars description and can only bo ap preciated by the few who saw it. Capt- DeRosset- We are truly glad to be able to chronicle the fact that Capt. DeRosset's condition has somewhat improved, although we are not able to state that there has thus .far been any decided change for the better. He is somewhat easier and this report, slight as it is, is thankfully received 1 by his many friends. We hope to be able to an nounce a decided change for the better in to-morrow's issue. - Fashion Dots ,Clair De Leine combs are among '.the latest novelties. I 1 I . White is going to be worn a great deal this summer. Silk stockings come in all of the pale shades ; embroidered cost only $10 a pair. The kilt plaited ekirt, now so fashion able, is becoming to most every one. For trimming, fine French lace is used in great quantities, but to look prettily it must not be used sparingly. , A pretty white suit which was sim ply made attracting attention, was of fine French muslin, made princess and trimmed with insertions of Valenciennes with colored ribbons underneath,, making a pretty. and simple suit. In hats there are all shapef, from the wide brimmed hat down to the small Copote. i The Fra Diavolo is one of the prettiest and most becoming to every one. The Organdies and lawns are simply beautiful, most of them in the pale, plain shades of ecrne, blue, lilac, green or pink, with a profusion of flowers strewn over them. Bordered percales are largely imported. Some of these aie gay bourette figured borders, while others are just the reverse. The lace collars and cuffs are a pretty ornament and are worn to a great extent. ! For evening the hair is worn high, with a profusion of curls, frizzes land pufls. For Register of Deeds. Bubgaw, N. C, 13th May, 1873. To the Voters of Fender County: Fexxow-Citizens I most respectfully announce myself a candidate for the office of Register of Deeds of this county, sub ject, however, to the action of the coming Democratic Convention. Your aid, there fore, in securing to me the nomination for, and the election to, said office is most re spectfully solicited. Maeiox Moobe. Where the. sail in p- varht. 77. 1 Franrist lay at anehor. By an invitation of the n j. .. .. captain, we were to be entertained with a sail oer the bar out to the blart-fish grounds, some five miles distant. By 7 o ciock, everything being im readiness, we weighed anchor, and our vessel swuncr gracefully around to the wind, poised her- seiiior a nioment,as her sails filled, and bore gentlv down the channel for tlio bar. A more happy party it would be hard to find as we uounuea over tne green swells out upon the bioad bosom of the Atlantic. But alas ! Mr Editor, all human hones are destined to be blighted (or at least so with many ot our party), lor about this time, we had notiped some nf tlio 'follvn7 I v w V iVllW II u crawling up under the bow, whose gills had lost the rosy hue they had at starting. Some reclined gracefully, with back against the masti eyes upturned, as if imploring mercy irom on nign, wniie otliers were busily engaged in paying tribute to the sea. 1 How long this state oi thines mmht have continued we leave you to conjee tune, but the wind, beincr stiff .we were soon at our destination, where the vessel was thrown out of the wind and some relief tendered to poor suffering humanity. Fishing tackle 1 was produced and our party had the satisfaction of capturing many varieties of the finny tribe. As the sun began to approach the meridian we were again under way, i and after a magnificent sail of about half hour were once more safelv Dlavincr around the anchor. Baskets were brought forth and a repast spread which would have done honor to Delmonico: after which was ten dered a vote of thanks to tbe captain for his hospitable entertainment when the party dispersed for their homes feeling this to be the most pleasant day they had ever experienced. i i X.
