Many of the cltisens will regret to learn that the Revenue Cutter Colfax has been ordered to New York and that she wil . .1 proceed on her journey on Monday. Everything, we understand, passed off very satisfactorily to those who participated in the ceremo- nies. The Charlotte Excursionists. The excursionists from Charlotte who steained down the river yesterday on tne steam yacht rassport, not content with hearing old ocean roar, wanted to see the mighty waves of the ; sea and t ride tipon the bosom of the broad Atlantic. So Captain Harper of the rassport changod the course Of his little steamer after he hail reached : 8mithville and headed for the Bar. The steamer glided along past Forts Caswell and Campbell and was soon out on the "deep blue sea. , The weather was calm, however, and swell of the ocean very gentle, con sequently our visiting friends weTC none of them sick, but returned with the repu tation . of being perfect "sea doss." A short stay was made at Smithville on the return from the trip outside, and then the steamer headed for the city, reaching here about G o'clock in the evening. T6-diy the majority of the excurtionistsjhave taken a trip to Waccamaw Lake, thirty- four miles from here on the W. C. & A. rJ u. Some of the party however, went down tho river again to-day. To-morrow is tho day set apart for an excursion to the Sound, where the whole party will eat to their jfill of roasted oysters. . Among the visitors , are " Col. C. W. Alexander, of the N. C. State Guard, and Mr. Joseph r. (Jaldwell assistant ecitor of the Charlotte Observer.1 Mr. Caldwell is known to the newspaper men throughout the State as one who wields a most grace ful.but vigorous pen. We are glad to learn that the visitors are all enjoying themselves hugely and we trust that they may continue to do so as long as they are with us. ; The loans Misses ' FestKal. We trust that all of- our citizens who were Confederates, either by act or sympa thy, during the war and have a little spare change in their p-ck!s. will not forget the Festival to-night gotten up by the Young Ladies' Memorial Association of this city ; ' - 1 1 ' 1 15 or. more propeny fpeaKing, as we ueneve it was first "called, the ''Children's Memo rial Association of Wilmington." The young misses who comprise this association, are all the way from the tiny little nirl of six or sev -n years, up to the . - young miss of sweet sixteen and perhaps, there are some who are members who just oitiof their teens. But that matter we dont propose to discuss, our simple object at this time being to call attention to the fact that those fair young creatures are engaged In a most praiseworthy, but arduous task, and will display such a tempting variety joi delicacies aod nice thlngi this even ing at the store in Evans' Block, as will compel any one who attends with a few dimes in his pocket to make purchases, j Strewing flowers over the 'craves of the fallen braye 'ft is heanljful in sentiment but if the heroic - dead, whose forms now lie moulding in the dust, could utter a wish or a prayer in regard to the thihM of this 'world, it doubtless would be, that their loved ones who are In need, mitrht be provided lor. even thoush the mound 6f earth, that now hides tljeir form, should be totally neg lected and go altogether uncared for, These noble young, misses who have undertaken and projected this Festival for the purpose of giving relief to the poor widow and' orphan of the brave confede rate soldier, who now sleepa his last sleep, AamarrTH-trrtti. irrv1tf fnr tit A n n1nrta V in n for theirs has been no easy ' task, and xre only trnit thai the success, attending their efforts will De commensurate witn the trouble and labor they have endured. i.
