l'arii green is in disfavor in Connecticut.
The recent heavy rains, it is claimed, have
carried from the vallcv farms so much of
the poison used to kill potato bugs into
the rivers as to cause the death of millions
of Gib. Certain it is that thousands of
carp, young shad, pickerel, and perch are
dying every day, and the above is the
theorv on which the wholesale destruc
lion is accounted for.
An unpleasant s?usition exists in Hast
Hartford, Connecticut, caused by the dis
appearance of Leonard T. Pitkin, town
treasurer, and a much respected citizen.
He disappeared five weeks ago, ostensi

Saturday, he wrote to friends that
be was unable to meet bin liabilities, that
be could not face bis creditors, and that
he bad determined to ship for u at
Philadelphia and leave the country.
Mr. David K. Cook, of Mansfield, Ohio,
promises greater things than Keclcy. He
claims to have discovered a means o f util

electricians as compound hcliacs. Ho is
now constructing a flying machiao which
he claims will make the trip from New
York to San Francisc in six or eight
hours. He claims that it will entirely
supersede horse or steam power lor pur
poses of locomotion, as every man can
have his own flying . machine at very
slight expense.

Therefore the Democratic press should let
