Six months ,ago we had only one m?H per week." Col- Fremont- We arc pleased to learn that Col. S. L. Fremont, of this city, has been appointed to a very responsible and important posi tion on the staff of Gen. Gilmore, who his the general charge of works on the Atlantic coast. Col. Fremont goes to Savannah, and by direction of the U. S. Engineering Department, will take charge as assistant to Gen. GUmore of the river and harbor improvements now in progress there. This work is a very difficult and a very important one. the obiect beine to deepen the Savannah river by removine the shoals and thus make a good, permanent Channel to the city.
