Changing Trucks Here.
Tho emnloves at the W. & W. rail
road shops, in this city, have had for the
last few days plenty of hard work in
chauging the trucks of tho cars of tho
Great London show to suit the gauge o
the railroads South of this point. It wil
bo borne in mind that the guage of the W.
C. si A. railroad and all other roads South
of us aro three and one half inches wider
than tne W. & W. and all other roads
North of us. To effect this change an
extra rail has been laid to make the re
quired width, the trucks have been taken
out from under the cars and wheels drawn
off and then drawn on to longer axles.
A Patriotic Citizen.
Mr. James Mclntire, of Long Creek,
Pender County, deserves, well of his
country. He is 80 years of age and has
been married four times. His present wife
is 24 years of age and on Wednesday last
presented the old gentleman with a fine
boy which, when it was ten hours old,
weighed ten pouuds. This is his twenty
fourth child and the old gentleman says
they have'nt all been counted yet. Mr.
Mclntire is a highly esteemed citizen ot
Pender county and is uncle to Capt. R.
M. Mclntire, ot this city, who well yes,
who is the ,'nephew of his uncle.

City Court.
Isaac ljtaker,who was arrested yesterday
afternoon by officers Biddle and Griffith
for drunkenness and disorderly conduct,
was arraigned this morning upon the ad
ditional charge of resisting the police. He
was sentenced to pay a fine of $25 or serve
thirty days in the city prison . In the ab
sencc of Judge Russell's $u7,12. per
capita1' the defendant was committed.
Carl Daggatt, a German sailor man,
who has been interviewed by His Honor
on a previous occasion, was overhauled
last night by the police while sailing under
false colors, the colors being of the char
acter which Mest told Midshipman Easy
no man ever yet hauled down. The fact
is the defendant appeared to have started
out for a little sport and bad donned female
attire. He declared, however, that he was
only disguised in this way for about ten
minutes, for which he was sentenced to a
fine of $1 a minuta or fifteen days in the
city prison. ,

Temple of Israel-A Pleasant
prise.
On tbe 3J of November a resolution
wan flVred at a meeting of the -Trustees
of the Temple of Israel in this city to
render to the Rev. Dr. Samuel Mendel
sohn, their minister, a token of cstesm for
his faithful services.
This morning, after the usual Sabbath
Service, tbe congregation when about to
retire were requested by the President to
remaiu. Henry Brunhild, Esq., then arose
and in behalf of the congregation address
ed Dr. Mendelsohn as follows :

cordance with a resolution passed at the
last regular meeting of the congregation
of the Temple of Israel it becomes my
pleasant duty to tender to you on their
behalf a slight token of our appreciation
of your services as minister and1 teacher.
Please accept it with the renewed assur
ance of our friendship and esteem, trust
ing at the same time that all of yoifr et
forta in the Vineyard Israel may be crown
ed with success. i
Mr. Brunhild here presented an envel
ope to the reverend gentleman tn whicjh
was inscribed the following words: "With
highest esteem and regard as a token from
the members andj s'eatholders of the con
gregation of tire Temple of Israel, to Rev.
Dr Samuel Mendelsohn."' Inside of tho
envelop was Russiau leather pocket
book, the gift of P. Heinsberger, Esq. and
inside of the pocket was a handsome sum
of money, the gift of the congregation.
Dr. Mendelsohn, in accepting, thanked
the congregation for this manifestation of
their kind regard and the substantial to
ken of their friendship, in a very happy
effort, showing his appreciation of the
token in words suited to th occasion.
Dr. Mendelsohn has wrought a good
work with his people since his lirst
advent here aud wields no lit tie influence
for good among the members, of his coo
gregaiion.
By the way, we learu that the reverend
gentleman has received and accepted an
invitation to fill the pulpit of the l:ev. Dr.
Jastrow, of Philadelphia, on Thanksgiving
Day, and leaves on the 9:10 traiu this
evening for the above named place We
wish1 the Rev. Doctor a pleasant journey,
a happy Thanksgiving, and a safe return
in due t'rne, to his flock in Wilmington.

peared in the person cf Daniel Howard,
colored, who departed this life yesterday
after a lingering illness of many months,
during which time the poor old man was
a great sufferer. Old Dan. was intima
tely associated in oar mind with our
childhood days. Many is the free ride we
have taken on the old man's dray and1
nere"r a gruff word would the old fellow
speak when the boys would jump up and
ask Uncle Dan to let them ride. We do
not know how old the deceased was but
imagine that he had fully lived otit his
allotted time of three score and ten1. May

enpa of flour, one teaspoon Doolet's
Yeast Fowdeb. Bake m a quic oven
twenty minutes. 1
For the Cr. Scald nearly, a pint
of milk, dissolve two heaping tablespoons
corn-starch in a little milk, beat this with
two eggs, and. a small teacup of sngar;
stir this into J the milk, and when it is
boiled add a heaping tablespoon of butter;
stir smooth, and flaror Tanilla or lemon.
Split the cake while warm, and spread
with the cream. This is sufficient for two
cakes.
