Tough. Pais morning a colored man, whose name we did not ascertain, while working in the ice h'ouse of Mr. J. E. Lippitt almost maryelously escaped a fatal injury. A block of ice weighing about four hun dred pouuds fell a distance of nearly thirty feet and struck Lim on the side of the head and knocked him down, and he struck as he fell upon a block of solid ice Ue escaped, however, with only a slight tracture of one ot hie jaws, but the block of ice was broken. Tax on Fruit Trees. The State Treasurer, in answer to a let ter inquiring into the construction of sec tion:.', schedule B, decides that all per sons selling fruii trejs oma within this section, and are required to pay $10 in each county for a license to bej issued by the sheriff of each county in which any such sales are made. . "Fruit trees" were specially exempted in the old law,, but were not nie:ci,iAd under any kf the ei eaiplk n in the new revenue law. Seriously Hurt. This morning, about 11 o'cloek, Jjoha Merrick, an old colored man who is in the employe ; of Mr. W. II. McRary as a driver, was seriously injured while grpom ing one of the horses. At the time of the accident a errick was in the stable alone with the horses and we could not ascer tain how he was hurt. He45asjjaried to his quarters on th lot and physicians hastily .summoned. The Board met at the City Hall, last evening, pursuant to the call of the Mayor. The Clerk read the act of the Legisla ture continuing the present Mayor and B ard of Aldermen in office for the period of two years. Bid of James D. D.y, for removing night soil, was presented and accepted. Contract for lignting, repairing, clean ing and furnishing oil for the city street lamps was awarded to F. M. King & Go , Aldermen Foster desiring to be recorded as voting in the negative. The qiettion of appropriations for the ensuing year was then considered, and the total amount was ixed at $50,000. The Board re-enacted the General Tax Ordinance of last year, except the tax on Kxpress Companies, which was reduced from 50 to $40 per month.
