One of Ours Our good friend, Capt. W. J. Calais, ("Buck") formerly of this city, has been elected Mayor of Old Fort, in McDowell county, of which place he has been a resi dent for several years past. The Com mis sioners elected with Capt. Calais are Messrs D. C.Salsbury, A. T. Curtis and A. W. Crawford, all Democrats, of course. Capt. Calias, who is, by the way, as good an "old reb. " as ever flourished on a pound of meal and a quarter of a pound of "Nassau bacon" jar diem, runs the hotel a Old Fort, and w"l give a downright hearty welcome to all who may call up en him this summer. Kltchin and Russel. There is still much talk about the al leged difficulty between Representatives Kitcbin and Russell, but yesterday's Ral eigh News says, by authority, that it is all the merest nonsense in the world, and that there is no truth in the report that a hostile meeting has been in projection. We are glad of this, very glad. We don't think Judge Russell is prepared to die yet and whatever Kitchin's practics may be the man who could hit the side of a house at fifteen paces would hardly miss Dan, Russell. Besides, we haven't quite made up our mind, as yet, as to who we shanld like to have aa Judge Russell's successor. Marine Disasters. Tne Russian barque Ecliptic, Captain Jo ban sen, which cleared from this part on the 5th inst., with 3020 bbls rosin for Riga, Rassia, encountered a gale when about one hundred and twenty miles out and shipped a sea which stove in bul warks, cabin-house and broke her rudder head and started the vessel to leaking. Two seamen were canght by pieces of timber set afloat by the accident and bad ly injured. The Captain succeeded in reaching our bar with his disabled vesse 1 and yesterday put in below and then taking a tag came to the city to inform the agents, M ssrs. E. Paschau & Wes ter mann, of the mishap. The agents in structed the Captain to bring his vessel at onee to the city, where it is thought she will have to undergo repairs. Schooner It. H. MUchdl, Captain Mitchell, loaded with a cargo of lamber, from Savannah tor Washington, D. C, on the 4th inst., put in at this pert this morning in a leaking condition. The Captain reports that when two days out) he encountered a heavy northeast gale; laid to for three days, the'port side of the vessel being under water a good deal of the time; shipped heavy seas which finally started tbe deck load and strained the vessel to such an extent that it opened her seams, causing her to leak. Had to get rid of about one third of the load on deck. The Captain reports that the condition of his vessel and crew was such at this time as to make it imperative on him to head for the nearest harbor, which' be did, reaching the month of Oape Fear oa Sat urday and this port to-day. Captain Mitchell thinks it will not be necessary to unload for repairs, and that he will be able to start on his voyage in about a week's time. Review. MONDAY, MAY Sailed. Mr. A.
