An excursion train will leave this city on Tuesday, the 27th, for the purpose of con veying all to the convention who may de sire to attend. The Cencert Last Sight. A large, fashionable and refioed aud ience were gathered at the Opera House last night in attendance at the compli mentary concert tendered to Mrs. D Kahn weiler by the citiz ma of Wilming ton. The concert consisted in vocal and instrumental selections from the best authors which were performed by lady and gentlemen amateurs of the city under the direction of Prof C. Van Laer. The pieces were all well rendered aad it was undoubt edly the heat concert by amateurs ever given in Wilmington, which is saying a good deal. "Autumn Leaves" was the first piece on the programme, and it wfe given in fiue style by the Cornet Concert Club, This waa followed with a clever rendition of j the over ture of 'Oberon' by the Misses Atkinson and Mr. Reman. Messrs. Hargrave, Mitchell, Welch and Manning, as a quartette, elicited much and deserved praise for their vocal ef forte. Air E. Tnorpe, as the accompanist, rendered excellent service and received much praisa. Mrs. K ihn weiler sbly maintained the high position ths has ever held as a soprano voloist. Taa 'Polonaise' from "Mignon" and be ''Carnival ot Venice ' were sung with fine effect, and were heartily encored. Mr. Nathan Mayer sang 'Trusting," by Millard, in excellent tatte and upon being encored gave "Good Bye, Sweetheart" in hit beet style. Mr. George Welsh sung several comic songs as only ha can sing them. He is a nat.ral come Han, and has a real musical genius. The Cornet Concert Club acquitted itself with credit, and its eff rta at the rendition of difficult music were highly appreciated. Mr. James H. Chad bourn, Jr., sang "The Diver ' with fue spirit and grace, and it was the opinion ef many that it was, the best effort of the evening. Mrs. M. P. Tay .or, as solo accompanist for Mrs. Kahnweiler and others, performed the difficult part assigned with her precisi on and grace. Mrs. Taylor always acoom puuee well and our vocalists know how to appreciate her skill. We are glad to state that the concert ia its entirety was a complete success. The stage was very beautifully decorated for the occasion, which we learn was the delicate handiwork of Misses Atkinson and Miss Empie, to whom too much praise cannot be given for ih-ir exquisite taste and designs.
