Mr Atkins, of Tennessee, from the committee on appropriations, reported back the Senate amendments to the Legislative Appropriation bill, and tiaud that he was instructed to move coLCurrence in all of them. It was Lardly nec ssary, he said, to give the reason for that instruction. There were eome of the amendments in which the committee would not, under other circumstances, concur, for in stance, the increase of salaries of Senate officials from twenty to one hundied per cent more than the salaries of sume of the correspond ing employes of the House. Charlotte Observer: Mr George K Tate; of the firm of Tate Bros, owners and operat rs of the Mountain Island -Cotton Factory, in Gaston county, was in the city yesterday on the way North to purchase two hundred additional looms for the factory. A little over a year ago this factory began to operate looms, keeping seventy-six running constantly. Newbern Nut ShcU: Rav Mr Mc Pherson delivered an able and earnest discourse to a very large congregation in New street Methodist Church last night. There were! present representa tives from nearly all of the detomi nations in . this city, many of whom took a deep interest in the good work going on in the Church. A deep feeling pervaded the assembly throughout the services, and in re sponse to an invitation, a large number knelt for prayers, and there were several penitents among those who have heretofore held aloof. A vast amount of good has already been done since the commencement cf the revival and the indications last night showed that much more will yet be accom plished. Charlotte Observer, Mining Matters. The arrangements have been complet ed whereby a controlling interest in the Kuisiil Mine, near this cityf pastes into the hands of a New York company, who have also purchased a part of the Duflie Mine, in Gaston county. The manage ment of these properties has now passed into the hands of Mr W I Smart, of Bos ton, a mining expert, who has had fifteen years experience in his business, princi pally iu the' most extensive mines of Cal ifornia. It is said that Mr Smart has a high opinion of North Carolina as a gol ir-b arirg field He is satisfied that ine day will come when her mines will yield untold wealth, aud that it will come, too, as soon as the proper methods ot working them are put into operation.
