In accordance witb previous nu unce meut, the menjl)ers of the Cham be: oJ Commerce, Produce Exchange and other citizens met at the rooms of the Lxcbaute t;-day at 12 o'clock, to ofler ; some ter-d-monial of acknowledgment' to Hemj Nutt, Esq., lor the active and live i iu tereat he has ever taken in the Cape Fear iiiver and Bar Improvements. Mr. C fl Robinson, President of the Produce Ex cba nge. cailed th meeting to order, inas much as the meeting was calied at th looms ot the Exchange, and tLeu ted a letter which had been aGdreased to him as President of the body from a rrhniber of merchants requesting $ meetiug ol the EjtchaLge ior the object aireaJy stated. Mr. Robinson then suggested and requested that as this was a meeting ot cit.zens generally that some uther pcr sou be called upou to preside, where upon Col. F. W. Kerchuer nominated Mr. A. hl. VauBjkkelen. Mr. VanBokkelen was then unanimously called to preside and upon takiug tne chair made the fol lowing well timed and appropriate re marks: The call for this meetiug just read by Mr. Uouinson fudy expresses its object. kfears since, the improvement oi the Cape Fear River aud Bar was brought bitore this community by a number of our citizeus, among whom was Mr. Nutt, .aud he has from that time to this, done what was in his power, to the best of his judgment, aiding greatly the progress of the work. To hiiu la due the thauks ot our people for the part he has acted. 1 cue rfudy aycept the position I am called to and will lake much pleasure in carrying out any action of the meeting. On motion of C, H. Robinson, .Esq., Col. Jno. L. Cantwell was requested to act as Secretary, On motion of Alex Spruut, Esq., the Chair was authorized to appoint a committee to draft resolutions. The Chair then appointed on this committee Messrs. Alex. Spruut, Edward Kidder, C. H. Robinsou, Dr. A. J. DeRosset and Col. F. W. Kerchuer. The committee after retiring a short time returned ana teporied through Dr. A. .1. DeR jssjt, the following resolutions: Whereas, The recent announcement of the successful closing of the New Inlet, which has been looked upon as by far the most ddh,-uit part of the great work of improving the Cape Fear River aud Bar, furnishes abundant ground lor the fullest contf deuce in the early accomplishment of the important object of restoring the origi nal depth of water iu the harbor of Y ll miugton thus proving the wisdom of our Congress in making liberal appn-piiatious, and the remarkable science and skill of the engineers a. d officers engaged iu the work. And whereas, much of the interest wnich has been felt both by this com munity and by the General Government in this work, is due to the persevering and laborious attention which has beeu given to it for a number of yf ars past by our fellov-citizen, Mr. Henry Nutt, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Committee on the Bar aud River Lm provements, theref re. Jiesolved, That the cordial thauks of this meeting, representing the commercial interests of this city, are due, and are hereby tendered to Mr. Nutt for his persevering interest in and laborious at tention to the progress of this great work, often under gri at discouragements, aud tor his sucC'-Solul ellorts in keening it before our peopie aud our Representatives iu Congress. Mesolced, Further, that this mee'.ing earueotiy hopes ibt Mr. Nuit will Uud jit convenient to continue his ellorts iu beliall of this work until the final accomplish ment ot' the object for which it iis de signed. After the reading of the resolut ous the Chair stated that the resolutions were before the meetiug for ite action and could be altered or amended if the meeting so deired and alsa that any remarks were in order Col. Wna L. DeRosset then arose and said that as a former President of the Chamber of Commerce, he felt that on such an occasion he had a right to speak and he would therefore sta'e as a fact of which he was personally cognizint that from the very inception of phis undertak ing Mr. Nutt hid manifested the deepest concern and liveliest interestjic it; that in December, l863,this gentlemau was active ia having the first memorial forwarded to Congress petitioning an appropriation and the effort was followed with tangib e re sults on the following July, when the first appropriation was made- The speaker further stated that it was personally a known to him that Mr. Nutt bad, at the sacri6ce of 'his owe time and at considerable expense to himself, prosecuted this work up to the present time, and it therefore gave him great pleasure Xo second the above resolutions and he would cheerfully vote for tbeir adoption. The resolutions were then alop;ed unani- anoosly. Upon motion of Dr. A J. DAi aset, it was resolved that the Chairman of this meeting be ret piested to transmit a copy Review. of the forejroine resolutions to Mr. Nutt and hat the Secretary furnish the paperf woh oopi-s ot the same with n quest for publication Upon motion the meeting urned Returned. ( Liudrrgrec, a Inch arrived here yesier iay, is fr m pori N'atal.ou the Sou' beast coast' oi Afric, made L.IUOUS by the wr mow being c irrn-d n by Great Briuin agaiust the natives of that Country, knowL as the Zulu?. Iu a brief visit on board tbe britf, to-day, the Captain kindly ex hibited to us some uf the curiosities of the country, among which were several speci mens of coarl and some ol the most beau t ful sea shells we have ever seen. He also showed us a defensive weapon in common use among the natives, but did not have any , of the asseg iis which is the most formidable weapon known ip their warfare. It will be remembered that the Prince Napoleon recently lostj hie life at the hands of the Zulus while iu the service of Queeu Victoria iu that couu try, and that he was killed by hiegais. The Captain also exhibited to us sev eral photographs of the natives, both male and twmale. They were dressed in the latest fashion of the laud, bnt we are in clined to think the style would not com mend itself to our people. The femabs all wore embarrassingly low-necked dresses, with a shortness of skirts which would not impede walking in windy weather. In fact, the top of the waist and the bottom of the skirt were so near to gether that thre was but little room for gath rs. The Fayetteville Gazette says that the annual encampment of the Second Regi ment, N C. S. G., will be at Beaufort, somewhere about the bull's eye of tbe July target. The Raleigh Ncu.'f only a day or two ago, told ua that the encamp ment would be at Wrightsville. Now, who is korreet? We 'don't know nothin, down this way aud therefore rise to an ?.
