The dogexodus from this city to the country since the dog catchers have been going the rounds, equals, if not sur passes, i. e. in proportion to population, the tremendous exodus chaperoned by Senator Windom, -of Minnesota, of the plantation hands from the cotton fields o Mississippi and Louisiana, the difference beiny, however, that the canines who are now migrating to the country from this, city are kindly and hum tnely cared' for and are carried away to save thoir j poor doggish lives, while the poor colored, man of the far west is ehtic d away in a dfgsed mean manner, 'and left in. a most inhuman way to suffer and starve to death to serve tho ends of a few malignant ma licious political haters of the Southern people who love the colored -man ith about the same devotion that tbe devil does holy water. Departed this Life . , i He served his company faithfully and was always prompt to respond to any and all calls that were made upon bim. It mattered not whether in the dead hour of a cold, frosty night in mid-winter or un djr the burning heat of a noonday sun in mid summer, oldj Bob always respond ed with alacrity to the fire alarm. and was promptly on hand with the hose reel of the Little Oiarit Eogine Company, going wiilinglyjind Sfieedily, no matter how far or how short the distapce, in whatever" course he ! was directed. Railroad, which tad been changed from parlor cars, . that we believed the change had been effected by the mechanics at the shops of the W. & W. railroad in this city. In this we were in error as they were refitted a3 sleepers at the shops of the W.' 0. & A. Railroad at florcnce, S. C. The tyle and qualify of work in both places are so very similar that you can hardly ' tell Mother from which," and at either place the mechani cal skill displayed may safely challenge a comparison with any ia the country. A Worthy Publication. ' ' We have received the June number o "St. Mary's Muse," a monthly magazine edited by the Pierian Club of t. Mary's school, at Kaleigh.jN. C." It is hand somely gotten up, with clear type, on fine paper, and, as its name would imply, is the labor of. the female pijpils of the school whose name it bears. The articles in Engu lish are far above mediocrity and are every way worthy to ,be classed with tha eff rts oifmoro mature years, and upon the prinr ciple t lat omne ignotum pro magnifico, we are induced to say the same relative to the articles written iu French. It is an excellent number and we wish its fair conductors an abundant succesi. 1- A Motherly Koosttr. . We learn that a lady in! this city'is the t possessor of eight hens and a rooster. Some time since one of. the hens com menced setting in a very determined m inner, only leaving her nest long enough to eat, drink and raise a big luss in the garden. This arrangement not being In accordance with the lady's programme she threw cold water on the hen in order to cool off her maternal instinct, which; proved effectual, anil, she forsook the nest. No sooner had this been donej ho.yever, than the rooster took the nfist in a' motherly way, and commenced cluck ing in the most apprdved fashion, am) devoting his entire time to setting.
