Notes for the Season.
BroDze shoes will be very fashionable
for the house and for carriage woar.
Flowers will be almost entirely abol

namenting dressy evening hats.
The fancy in bracelets and armlets is
for the E'ruscan style, both massive anl
light, and for the coiled serpent, of the
ancients. Small bangle shaped bracelets
of dead gold, ornamented with precious
stones set deep into the gold, are a favo
rite design. I
Among the newest designs in embroid
ery work on foot wear are butterflies just
covering the tees of black satin shoes,
worked in opal, red, blue, gold and other
tiny beads.
Fall wraps will be chiefly mado up in
light colored cloth for young ladies, and
in black cashmere and Sicilienne for elder
ladies. Long coat-shaped sacqus incru

fancy buttons, are to be the very stylish
garments for the first cool days. DjI

for elderly ladies

A War Anniversary.
To-day is the anniversary of the batt!e of
Sharpburg, or Aptietam, as the Yankees
called it, fought in Maryland, seventeen
years ago, between General Lee on tbe
Confederate side and General McClellan
on the Federal side. The battle was con

judged to have been! most discomfited as
he withdrew from the field the next day
and recrosacd the Potomac into Virginia
Wilmington mourned on that occasion
for the loss ot many gallant sons, premi
