Fire Last Night.
A small frame building on the cornc r
of Thirteenth and Castle streets was
burned last evening about 6 o'clock. It
was the property of Geo, W. Price. Jr.,-
and was unoccupied. The loss is about
$100 on which there was - no insurance.
The fire was undoubtedly the work of an
incendiary.

Death of Mr. SclirlTcr.
Mr. Claus Schriver, a German by
birth, but for many years past a, resident
Of this section, died at his home at Castle
Hyne . about 9 mile3 above the eity, at
1 olock this morning, of malarial fever.
Ha was 49 years of age and was formerly
a citizen of Wilmington but had resided
at Castle Hayne for the past eight years.
The Remains.
The remains of the late Dr. Joseph
Francis Kinej, accompanied by the fam
ily of the deceased, are expected to ar
nve here to-night on the 9.53 train from
the North. The funeral services will
takft I nlaca to morrow afternoon at 3
o'clock at the residence of the deceased,
thence to St. John's Church and thence
to Oakdale Cemetery.

Aocording to previous appointment
the young ladies belonging to the Burgaw
Female School, taught by the lamented
Mrs. Sarah H. Lindsay, met in the
Academy on Sanday evening,Dec. 7th, at
2 o'clock. The meeting was called to
order by requesting Rev. C. C. Newtcn to
preside. Toe object of the meeting hav
ing been stated; a m otion was made for the
appointment of a committee of five to
draft resolutions expressive of the feeling
of the school in regard to the death cf
their devoted teacher. The, committee
having been selected after retiring short
time returned with the following resolu
tions which they requested Mr. J. T.
Bland to read for them.
Whereas, It hath pleased the ever
just and righteous God to remove from
the scenes of earth -to the solemn realities
of an untried state, Mrs. Norah Lindsay,
the highly respected teacher of Burgaw
Female School; therefore be it
Hesolved, That while we recognize the
hand of Him that tits on the High Throne,
in the death of our esteemed teacher, and
while we are 'taught' thence in humbler
reverence to now oeiore uoiy une,
yet we can but shed a tear ol
sorrow over the newly made grave
of one whose prospects, once so fair, have
lately been blasted forever.
He: olved, That during her short, but
honoiable career at the Academy, her
industry and perseverance as a teacher
wereiworthy ot imitation, while her ex
cellent qualities, kindness of heart, un
stained morals, and womanly bearing won
for her the esteem and admiration of all
who knew her. .
Jiesolved. That In her loss our school
has been deprived of an honored head.
the community ia which she resided of a
useful and upright member, and the
church to which ehe belonged of one of its
brightest cruaments.
Hesoloed, That while we lament ner

loss, we are comforted with the 1 thought
that she has been transferred to a nobler
and a happier field of labor, where the
good abide forever more, and while we
tender to her relations and friends our
warmest sympathy and mingle our tears
with theirs en a common jaltar of grief, we
bez them to be. comforted with us. for
God 'doeth all things well.'
Be-folved, That each member of her
school wear the bade of mourning for
thirty days as a tuken of our respect,
esteem and sorrow.
Resolved. That the entire school ct
as a committee of the whole to Solicit
funds for the purpose of purchasing and
erecting over the sacred remains of our
beloved teacher, Mrs. Lindsay, a suitable
monument, stone or slab, to how our
affection of her while living, and our re
spect for her memory. And that on the
23d day of December we all meet here
with such funds as have been raised, and
place them in the bands ot a committee,
