Wilson. ':!'! ' I Personal. 1 j We had the pleasure of meeting this afternoon with an old acquaintance in the person of Mr. J. D. Caddigan, of New York , one- of the proprietors of tbe Tre mont House in that cityt a place well known to North Carolinians, for the rea son that for many years past it has been a favorite resort with many North Caro Una merchants who visit the great metro polis in the Spring and Autumn seasons to buy their stocks of new goods. But the hotel business is a secondary consid eration with Mr. Caddigan cow, though he is still in that line, but Is at the same time seeking new fields and pastures green among the mountains of North Carolina and particularly iu the trans-montane country bordering on Dock town, Tenn,, and Paint Rock in this State. The first named region of country, as far as Pigeon river, Mr. C. i describes as the prettiest country he ever J laid eyes on, being One vast panorama of beautiful and pictur esque scenes which the eye can feast upon while, the traveler meanders in and around through mountain gorges, oyer mountain tops,! ' through valleys and across running an 1 sparkling streams with beautiful cascades. But, our pur pose was to say that Mr. Caddigan is in teres ted to some extent, we believe, with Mr. Best and, 'the proposition of the last named gentleman in the purchase of the Western N.C Railroad, and this, we be lieve, was the cause of his visit to West ern Carolina, and we think, though we are by no means certain, that Mr, Caddi gan's visit to Wilmington at this particu lartimeis also concerted either directly or indirectly with the Best proposition for the purchase of the above named road, but further than this, deponeth sayeth not, though we pumped hard for a little information upon .the subject but couldn't quire reach the suction point. We did learn, however, that there is a mining company under tne name and title of Ham by Branch Mining Company, , in Ca barrus county, some six miles east of Concord, and covering some 875 acres of ground; which Mr Caddigan, along with other fetoc'vbolJers, hopes to realize hand somely frm in 'the uar figure.
