For Congress.
So far as is known but three actual
candidates for the Democratic nomination
for member of Congress from this district
Lhave been announced. These are Hon.
A. M. Waddell, recent incumbent, Maj.
Chas. M. Stedman and Hon. A. A. Mc
Koy. It has beeu known for some time
past j that Maj. Stedman and Col. Waddell
were in the field but it has only recently
been; understood that Judge McKoy'a
name will be used. The first positive in
timation that we have had that this la I
named gentleman was in the field, .was
derived from the Goldsboro Messenger's
Clinton correspondence and we publish
the clipping on the second page of this
issue as furnishing information on a mat
ter of general interest at this time.
Besides the three names mentioned above
we have . heard others spoken of. Maj.
McClammy'a friends inPendencounty are
urging his name, Mr. J. G, Scott, of
Onslow it is said wants-it and so, we
understand, does a Baptist preacher in
Sampson county, Rey. J. L.Stewart, who,
in addition to being a minister of tbe
Gospel is a!so an excellent lawyer. We
have also heard mentioned Col. Ti B.
Short and Capt.; Johu W. Ellis, ot Co
lumbus, and Maj Jas. C. McR&e. of
Fayetteville, not as actual candidates for
the! nomination but as pos
sible dark bor. Previous to the
bringing forward of JudgeM,cKoy a name
by bis friendd, the coutest had undoubt
edly uarrowed i'siif to two candidates
MeUrs Waddell and Stedman. but whai
effect $udge McKoy's appearence on the
coarse will have we are unable to judge.
Of course the Rkyiew has no prefer
ence and no candidate of its, own. We
will most gladly support any one of those
named as tbe nominee of the Democratic
party ana our only regret will be that we
can't Tote for all of them lor Ooogreas.'
