Correction.
In our report of the proceedings of the
Criminal Court yesterday we reported the
case of the State vs. John F. Garreil,
charged with permitting Edward Mer
rick, a prisoner, to escape. Verdict
guilty. '
The thing was a little mixed i from the
fact that Edward Merrick was witness in
the case and not the escaped prisoner,
and was called but failed to appear, and
the verdict was not guilty instead of guil
ty, as was reported. We wrote it cot
guilty, but neglected to correct the mis
take of the printer In reading the proof.

The Cornet Concert Club.
About 7 o'clock last evening the Cornet
Concert Club, all in Oapt. Southerland's
big wagonette, and drawn by four horses
with flags flying, left the city for Oapt
Manning's place at Wrightsville Sound.
As they passed down Front street and up
Market they discoursed soma - very sweet
music. Arrived at the Sound the Club
repaired to a small pavilion bu It by Capt.
ManniDg over the water where they play
ed some of their sweetest pieces. The
night was calm and still and the music
floated upward from the water in its most
ravishing form. The Club then played at
the House and after that they all, together
with about thirty others who were pres
ent, sat down to a most delightful salt
water supper, prepared according to the
hespitable instincts of Capt. Manning
and his wife. It was a very pleasant
little occasion fur the members of, the
Club as well as for the others, and will
long be remembered by them.

The ladies and gentlemen engaged in
preparing for the fete champetre which
takes place oa the beautiful green sward
in the City Hall enclosure this evening,
have already pitched their tents and flung
their banners to the breeze, as can be
eas ly verified by the curious it they will
just take the trouble to walk up to the
City Hall Park and examine lor them
selves. There they will see four nice
wall tents, with fjys in front, all staked
to the ground, and above them, Strang
along ou a rope which is stretched from
the portico of the Opera Hcuse to a
corner of the iron railing fence,1 are many
flags of different colors, while running in
another direetion is' a wire, on which in
addition to the rope where the flags are
suspended, will be beautiful Chinese
lanterns. From the limbs of the trees also
within the grounds other lanterns will
he suspended which will make a
brilliant illumination of the whole scene.
The first tent upoD the right has been
named Lovers' Retreat while immediately
in front of this tent, upon a grassy mound
will be a beautiful stand cf flowers, sur
mounted by a handsome lady's work
basket filled with the choicest and rarest
flowers, to be awarded to the most popular
young lady, the award to be decided by
ballot. But this is not all. In the City
Hall, the Mayor s office will be beauti
fully decorated with 11 ajs and flowers,
and better still, the harpers will be there
and there will be music and dancing for
all who desire it. Refreshments will be
served in the teats and there will be lots
of fan and frolic for all whe attend. We
calculate to hunt in the corner of our vest
pocket for a ten cent piece to buy an aid
mission ticket with; and then vie think
we will go one better in order to have a
vote in that basket business, bat as io
the stick or gold-beaded cane we don't
care what fellow gets that, just so that the
movers in this benevolent undertaking
are not the losers thereby. ; .
