was in substance as follows: -
1. To pay an annual rental of 32,500
in quarterly insta'ments for a term of 30
years, tho Atlantic & North "' Carolina
Railroad Compauy to pay all taxes, and
after payment of interest and cxpenFes to
apply the remaiudrr of lcasa money to
payment of debt. If this eannot.be paid
before maturity, then to a sinking fuud
for tho debt.
1.2. The present line of road to be main
tained, at d rolling stock, machinery and
property to be returned at the expiration
of the lease, in condition as good as when
possession wastaken,
3. Rates for carrying cotton "shall not
be advanced on trie At Inn tic & North
Carolina Hai'road beyond the tariff of
April 1st, 1878. The guge of the Road,
motive power and roiling stock to be
changed to that of the Wilmfngton &
Weldon Railroad at the expense cf the
Wilmington 5c Weldon IWilroad Com
pany. 4 If the State of North Carolina shall
regain control of the North Carolina Rail
road after the termination of its lease to
the Richmond & Danville Uailroad Com
pany, and wi'.l arraLga to carry into ef
fect what is termed the North Carolina
System the stockho'ders in general meeto
iog of tbe Atlantic & North Carolina
Railroad Company shall have power to
terminate this lease.
Another proposi ion was submitted from
Messrs W 1 Clyde, A S Buford aud A B
Andrews, inthe interest tf the Richmond
& Danville Company. I
As nearly as we c mid learn the follow
ing is a fyuopsisof their proposition ; ,
1. To maintain and operate the road, to
keep the rosd and all the property cf the
lessor corporation in good order during the
lease, and return it ia good order at the
cx i rat ion of tho lease.
2.1 To pay a rent of SCO 000 a year in
semi annual instalments, .The lessees to
have a right to sublet to tho Richmond
A- Damille, the North Carolina Railroad
Company, or .to any other corporation,
with the assent and approval of the lessor.
S. The lessees shall a'so pay to the
lessor company, besides tbe 20,000 a
year of rent, one-half of the net earnings
of the railroad aud its property. These
payments are to be made annually and
ore to be ascertained by three intelligent
and disinterested referte3, ono to be ap
pointed by the lesser, ono by the leasees,
and these to appoint a third.
4. The lessees shall for the first few
years to allowed to apply S3.000 of tbe

lowing ricipe fur ginger beer is given:
Lump sugar five po unds, crushed Jamai
ca ginger ore ounces, cream of tartar four
ounces, ten lemons sliced, and five gallons
of boiling water. These should be mixed
in a vestel that cau be securely covered
until cool, but sbou'd be freely stirred
from time to time as the cooling progres

and keep in a warm place to encourage
the fermentation. Strain through a flannel
filter, and let it stand to ferment again
for a short time. Then take off the scum

music for dancing, and refreshments will
ba furnished at city prices. Those who
wish to stop at either Fort or at Smithville
can do soj and those who desire to fish
will then be carried out to the Blackfish
Grounds. The committee will reserve the
right to exclude any objectionable person,
and no liquors will be allowed on board.

Maj. Chas. M.Stednrtan, who represent-,
ed North Carolina in the Committee

Hancock and English of thsir nomina
tion, returned here last n'ght, after having
assisted in' tbe performance' of that most
pleasing duty. Maj. Stedman speaks in
glowing terms of the Democratic pros
pects this year. He says tkat the enthu
siasm for the ticket, everywhere that he
his been, is not only intense but immense,
and what would have seemed a few
months ago as almost fabulous majorities
are now gravely predicted. Gen. Han
cock, he says, fully merits the title of 'su
perb as he is one of the most magnlficient
specimens I of physical manhood be has
ever fieen and the magnetism of his res
ence is such that a look or a smile from
him is enough to make a man his friend
for life.

The Joint Meeting.
A meeting of the. committee of six,
composed of three members each cf the
Board of Aldermen and the Board of An
dit and Finance, was held yesterday after
noon at the City Hall. The Mayor and
Aldermen Foster and Myers, and Messrs
Gil s, .Jones and Worthwere present.
Mr. Worth offered the follow ng;

committee that tbe New Market Houses
be purchased by the city at a price and
on terms to be hereafter agreed upon.
After a lengthy discussion of nearly
two hours tbe motion was put and re
sulted in a tie vote, Mayor Fishblate, Al
derman Myers and Mr. Worth voting in
favor, and Alderman Foster and Messrs.
Gilts and Jones against the resolution.
On motion, it was then resolved that
the committee should confer with the of
ficers of tbe Wilmington Market Com
pany, as to upon what terms, if any,
they would, lease the markets to tbe city.
The committee then adjourned to meet
next Tuesday.
