The increase in the orange crop of Flor
ida within the past six years has been most
remarkable. In 1S74, says the Baltimore
Sun, the orange plantations were very few
the larger ones not exceeding four. Now
tUey are numerous on Indian river, Or
a-ige lake, on the Upper Ocklawaba and
Crystal rivers, while1 the St. John's river
is lined fir two hundred miles with Valua.

I am finable to learn what the Dem
ocratic Committees here think of oar
prospects at this writing, none of
the officers or members being in the
city, bat it is certain that everybody
else in Washington is snre of success.
I talked last night with a gentleman
an ex-eoldier who has juat returned
from Pennsylvania, where he spent
two weeks among -o d oomrados. He
gives the same report as do all tbe
other Republican ex-soldiers, who
having determined to support Han
cock, nave gone among their soldier
friends in bis interest. He says that
a vast majority of those he saw were
earnestly for the Ueneral. Similar
assurances come from other sections.
Hancock and Jar vis Club. The club
was duly organized, fifty good old Demo
crats coming forward aod enrolling their
name fur the support of the regular nom
inee. G. B. Robeson, Kq., was elected
President. The club was ably and elo
quently addressed by Capt. D. O. Allen

A very interesting feature of the occa
sion was a barbecue which was given' to
those present by the citizen of tbe neigh
