Wide mouths have come into FsUion , lumen. This is a change from the -JSl-n" style of the past year or two. H. nrooer mouth of the present season 1 worn m a constant but mild smile, the 13 r,ein" drawn back horizontally, c0He lip" left closed. The cxpress r one of amiable, quiet satisfaction 10Jh all the world as though the mind - free from sorrow and the feet free Tm corns. Care should be taken not . to broaden this into an active grin, ex it on mirthful occasions; nor sliould Slips be compressed. All should be ! Jose The lips may be reddened if he naturai color be too light. A prac .r'ofpaintinz the exposed memb ane the upper lip broad and bright just at the centre has crept in, but it is bad, for it rires an artificial and sensuous look. The fashionable belle has cut the pu k PriD" -triug of her mouth, and no longer murmurs, "1'runcs, prunes, prunes." -She can ki3 two men simultaneously, and cive rood satisfactory where before only one could find room at a time. The reader who supposes that the above is fanciful, and not plain, straight forward fashion news, is very much mis taken. -Women can change, the style of their faces: if not at will, at least consid erably. The hair over the forehead can be arranged to produce any desired out line for the upper part of the face, the month' can be made to widely vary its expression; the eyes can be kept partly wide open or languidly half-closed; the cheeks can be rounded by using "plump er?;" the eyebrows can be arcneoVor straightened; the color can be controlled to a high degree. ' Thus it is apparent that a woman can, if clever, have to some extent the kind of face she wants. The nose is about the only intractable feature. It sticks right out in unaltera ble independence, defying all efforts to shorten or straighten it. . Let me inter polate the fact that not one voman in ten ever laughs or smiles naturally. Knowing full well our defects of teech or expression, we try to hide or reform them. 1 know a girl who will never go to the 'minstrels, or any other funny show, because she isn't pretty when she laughs. If inadvertently caught by eonie thing comic, she buries the laugh in a hand kerchief; but, whenever possible; she does all her laughing internally . IT. Y.San. GEN. GlilXT'S SECOJiB SOJi. Uli Marriage Yesterday to the Daugh ter of ex Senator Chaffee. Ulysses S. Grant, Jr., second , son-of ex-President Grant, was married yester day afternoon to Miss Fanny J. Chaffee, daughter of ex-United States Senator Jerome Ii. Chaffee, of Colorado, lhe ceremony took place at the residence of the bride's father, 26 West Jb'itfcy-cightn . - - . a street. The wedding was strictly pri vate; the entire party present consisted of sixteen persous. They were Gen. and Mrs. Grant, Col. and Mrs. Fred Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Grant, Mr. and Mrs: llonore, of Chicago, parents of Mrs. Fred Grant; the father and sister of the bride, the Rev. Dr. John P. Newman, Mr. Stephen li.Elkins, Mr. -William II. Hamilton, and the bride ami groom. The ceremony was performed by the Rever end-Doctor Newman, according to the service of the" Methodist Episcopal Church. Early in the evening the party sat down to a wedding supper. The presents were numerous aud of great value. The bride is blonde, 22 "years of age. The bridal trip will probably be through the southern and bouthwestern States, and possibly extend into Mexico,, whenee Gen. Grant recently returned. About a month ago announcement was made in the San Francisco papers of tne termination of an engagement teg tween U. S. Grant, Jr., aud Miss Flood, daughter of one of the bonanza kings. Une "version of the affair was that the young lady and her mother retired to some mountain resort, where they were to be met by young Grant. lie went on to San Francisco, and from there wrote to the young lady postponing his visit from day to day on the ground of illness.- She discovered that he was not sick, and for that and sufficient other reasons she broke the engagement. The story of his friends was that the match was made by the parents of the young people, and that the two most interested parties failing to enter into the spirit of the arrangement, dissolved it. It is re ported here that such an engagemens did not exist, and that young Grant hat been engaged to Miss Chaffee for about three months, having courted her indus triously lor nearly a year prior to the en gagement. Jesse Grant, the youngest son, was parried in San Francisco, Sept. 22, to Miss Lizzie Chapman, the daughter of a wealthy real estate soeculator of that atJ Col. Fred Grant married the sister fvMrs. Potter Palmer, wife of the richest man in Chicago. At the -time of the candidacy of Gen. Grant for the fjepublican nomination it was reported rioou, rotterPalmer, and Air. v.aapman had agreed to make a pool of 51,000,000 as a contribution to the Re publican campaign fund in the case of en. Grant receiving the nomination. i-Senator Jerome'B.
