A Palnral-Accident
We are sorry to learn that Miss Nellie
Gardner, a young lady of about fifteen,
daughter of Capt. Junius D. Gardner,
fell on Thursday and broke her ri?ht
forearm. The fracture, we understand., is
a simple oneand Miss Nellie, it is hoped,
will have the use of her arm again in a
fiw weeks.

Personal.
Rev. Dr. A. A. Watson, Rector of St.
James' Parish, arrived in this city last
night and will fill his pulpit to-morrow.
Dr. Watson has been in attendance upon
the Triennial Convention of the church
which was held in New York.
Dr. M. J. DeRosset has so far recov

A Bad Smash-Up.
There was a regular smash-up on
Market street this morning. Capt. E.
W. Manning's horse was standing in
front of McEachern's grain store in the
buggy sharts, when he became frighten
ed and started off. He had run but a
short distance when he collided with a
grocery wagon and the rockaway was
badly smashed but the horse was not in
jured. Fortunately there was no one in
the rockaway at the time. The vehicle
is almost a perfect wreck..
Dr. Barbank.
Our young professional friend, Dr.
Burbank, who recently removed from
this city, is adding to his laurels in
Washington, in this State, his old home.
The Press says:
Dr. T. S. Burbank, on one day last
week, cut from the arm of Mr. A. P.
Crabtree, a piece of shell which has been
imbedded there since 1865. Many an
anxious hour as well as painful ones are
thus spared the unfortunate possessor of
this war trophy by the skillful use of the
knife of this young surgeon, who promi
ses bright developments in the future.
We advise all in need of Household Hard

Among the losers by the recent disas
trous fire in Durham is Bro. Green, of
the Tobacco Plant. He lost every
thing, but we trust that he may emerge
from his troubles at an early day and re
sume the publication of his excellent pa
per. By the way, this reminds us of some
thing. The insurance companies stick
on a very high premium on newspaper
offices, because, as they assert, of the
unusual danger from fire in such places,
and yet, can any man put his finger on
two instances in North Carolina where a
printing office has been destroyed by fire
originating on the premises?

Editor Daily Review:
: Sir: The suggestion of your "Front
street" correspondent and your own re
marks as to the distribution and delivery
of the. night mails seem to demand a
word in reply. .. -
1st Three mails, when on time, reach
the officejat 10.25. It requires about one
hour and a quarter for a proper distribu
tion, making the earliest possible time
of delivery 11:30 p. m. -
2d. The clerical force of the office is
hard worked on an average of fourteen
and a half hours per day. I am desirous
of giving the public the largest and
most complete facilities possible in the
matter of receiving and s despatching
mails, with tho means at my command,
and if your correspondent will secure
the signatures of a considerable portion
of the business firms of this city, setting
forth that they desire the distribution
and delivery of these mails at the hour
ofll.30jp. m. for their accommodation,
I shall be pleased to refer the matter to
the Department at Washington, with a
view of securing an appropriation, for the
night service. 1
