We hear rumors of a terrible murder in Duplin county a few days ago. We can get nothing in the way of particu lars and the rumors are vague, although we are assured that there is a foundation for them. It is said that a white man living in that county was murdered by some unknown ' parties. He was first mortally wounded and then, before life was extinct, was beaten with clubs. His betfy TO itea thrown in ta.tl fi nd when found was badly burned. This all we can hear now but may get full particulars in a day. or two. Highway Robbery. Yesterday afternoon, in the broad daylight, while Mr. Henry Clogr, a very respectable citizen of Brunswick county, was returning from the Messrs. Kidder's Mill, in the lower part of this city, he was assaulted on Surry street, opposite the notorious "Long House," by a col ored man and woman, the latter jerking his blanket off his shoulder and the man seizing Mr. Clogr's own walking-stick, with which he struck Mr. C. a severe blow over the head, knocking him sense less to the ground, after which the pock ets of the stricken man ;were riled and $10 in money taken therefrom. Mr. Clogr thinks he must have remained an hour on the street in an unconscious con dition, while the blood flowed freely from the wound caused by the blow ho had re ceived ou the head. After recovering his scattered senses, tho injured man staggered along the wharf, faint from loss of blood, and finally fell oa the streets exhausted where he was picked up by a policeman. This morning Julia Pierson and Thomas Shepard were arrested upon the affidavit of Mr. Clogr, charging them with the assault and robbery. The warrant was issued by Justice T. M. Gardner and the defendants both committted to jail in de fault of surety for their appearance for trial at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The woman was found in the Long House very drunk and the blanket, which Mr. Clogr swears to as his property, was found in the woman's possession, between her bed and mattress. There was a high carnival and carousal at the Long House after the robbery was committed and all hands were made drunk. The trial of the case came off too late for us to make a report of it this afternoon. The Pirates, D'Oyly Carte's troupe, who are to perform at the Opera House this evening, arrived this afternoon about 3 o'clock. This complaint is the result of eating too muoh and exercising too little. Of ten the cause is that the stomach is not able to digest the food last introduced into it, either from its having been un suitable or excessive in quantity. It is said a diat of bread and butter, wilh ripe fruits or berries, with modorate, contin uous exercise in the open air sufficient to keep up a gentle perspiration, would cure almost every case in a short time. To drink two teaspoonfuls of powdered charcoal, in half a glass of water, gener ally gives instant,- reliefc The above ovreign emeuie& uj-ioiu v not in all cases. A sovereign remedy for this ailment is not easily found. Sick headache is periodical, and is the signal of distress which the stomach raises to inform us that there is an over alkaline coidition of its fluids; that it needs a natural acid to restore the bat tery to its normal working condition. When the first symptoms of a headache appear, take a teaspoonful of clear lemon juice fifteen minutes before each meal and the same dose at bed-time: follow this up until all symptoms are passed, taking no other remedies, and you will soon be able to go free from your un welcome nuisance. Many will object to this because the remedy is too simple, but many cures have bean effected in this way. This number is one of remarkable ex cellence, and the new editor, Rev. Mr. Taylor, has catered most successfully for the edification and entertainment of his readers. There is, as he remarks, "something for everybody, of whatsoever class, or of whatever age. . . . Bible studeits, and sermon readers, and tem perance reformers and lovers of stories will all find in this issue something to suit them and to help them pass the time pleasantly and profitably."- Among the distinguished contributors are the Revs. J. M. Whiton, R. C. Houghton, W. T. Wylie, T. H Vail, Bishop of Kansas; C. F. Deems, David Swing, H. Bonar, Bishop Peck, etc; Alfred H. Guernsey, Hattie W. Arnold, Mrs. J. G. Burnett, Josephine Pollard, Frank H. Converse, Louise C. Moulton, etc. The opening article by the editor, '-Our Home Heathen," is highly interesting, and equally Aso is "Scenes on the Danube," by A. Guernsey; both are finely illustrated. The serial story, "Out of the World," is continued, and the several short stories, sketches, etc., are replete with interest and well written. The nnmerous poems are of singular merit. Dr. Deems explains "Hard Places in the Bible'' ; the sermon is by Rev. C.N. Sims, on the "Supernatural Success of Christianity."
