Dear Madam: I commenced last Jan
tjary to U68 your Bitters and Wash on our
tor Scrofula, with a . tendency to White
Swelling, the phyBician said. At the
time I commenced using your Remedy
jfae waB very much reduced in flebh, com
pltxion sallow, appetite poor, limbs very
much Bwolln, bones enlarged, with two
frightful sores on her left leg near the an
ite. After using the Remedy a week or
two I could see a' change, as I then
thought, for the worse. The sores dischar
ged copiously a yellow corruption, some
times running In a stream to the floor in
epite oi the linens. But feeling encoura
ged by your letters I persevered and after
using the Remedy a. while loDger her
trer.gth was greatly improved, her appe
tite good and complexion mi'ch improved.
Thotie ijmptoms encouraged me, but the
flow of corruption continued for several
months, and not until her general health
was greatly Improved did the :sores begin
tohed. Firfet the swelling began to de
crease below the knee, raid continued grad
elly downward, and when it nearly reach
ed tie sores they began to heal. In the
meantime the leg Iron.' the ankle halt
way to the knee became covered with run-
olug pimples, in fact the leg bad become
alKMt a solid sore. After this the sores
healed rapidly. The worst one, -on the in.
step, healed entirely, the other to the size
of a fire cent piece, and it has remained
In that condition ever since, which has
been several months ago. For a month
it core it has not discharged at all, and
looks sometimes now as if it was entirely
well. As a Blood Purifier .and Tonic I
thick it superior to-aoything I erer fried.
If you could have teen my daughter when
he commenced using your Hemedy, and
now, ycu would hardly believe her to be
its same child Last January nearly
vry 0D9 thought she would die. Then
she was a Vivid g skeleton, now ebo ia fat
and rosy-. Her case was an interesting
ctudy from the time she commenced your
Remedy. I can most heartily and cheer
felly recommend it to be what you claim
for it. Wishing you every 8UccesaS?ith
yotr undertaking, and with many thanks
for the benefits we have received from ycur

Rev. T. P. Ricaud, pistor of Fifth St.
M. E, Church, was very severely and
vtry satisfactorily pounded last night by
the members of his congregation. The
esteem in which this reverend gentleman
is held by his congregation is! well illus
trated in the fact that a well-known typo
of this city, and a very worthy gentle
man at that, was detected last night
trundling a wheelbarrow full of good
things through the heavy sand, half a
mile from his residency to that of his
pastor. There is no Lent about this
thing; it was all given and given very
freely, too. " , I

General Conference.
The General Conference of the Meth
odist Episcopal Church, Seuth,. jWill
meet in Nashville, Tenn., in May next,
and will probably remain in session for
several weeks. This iaeetingof the
General Conference will be a very im
portant and interesting one. j Among
other matters of great importance is the
election of three bishops to fill vacancies
occasioned by death. North Carolina
offers at least two candidates, Revs. B.
Cravdn and E. A. Yates, and we trust
that the honor may be bestowed npon
one or the other of these two distinguish
ed divines.
The publisher; of the Beaver Falls,
Pa., Courier, Mr. John F. Porter, some
time ago contracted a severe cold. He
says: "I tried half a dozen remedies in
effectually and upon recommendation of
a physician I gave Dr. Ball's Cough
Syrup a fair, square trial. It relieved
me imntediatelyand cured my cold and
catarrh entirely. It is a remedy that
should be used in every household."
Wilmington Library Association,
The members and officers of the above
named association met at their Library
rooms last eyening, and were called to
order by the President, Alex. Sprunt,
Esq. He then (rave a brief review of
the history of the organization, and was
followed with brief addresses from Messrs
Wo. L. Smith and Charles H. Robinson.
On motion of Col. Wm. L. Smith, the
following named gentlemen were ap
pointed, with the President as Chairman
exofiicio, to solicit members to a Liter
ary Society to be organized among the
members of the Association, viz: Messrs
C. H. Robinson, Herbert Smith Iredell
Meares and Walter Rutland.
This committee was instructed to draft
et constitution and by-laws, to be sub
mitted at a general meeting, which will
take place on Friday evening next.
All ' persons connecting themselves
with this society at that meeting are to
be allowed the privileges of the Library
Association free of the initiation fee.
It is a worthy, a necessary enterprise,
for the advantage, instruction and im
provement, mutually and socially, of our
citizens, and we hope that the efforts
being made will' meet with a rousing re
sponse. 1
