W ATtOV.J Washington, Aug. 5 Noon The Conference Committee on the Naval Annronriation bill, this morning, agreed to the only clause in controversy, which was in regard to tho closing of navy yards. The Senate Conferees receded from their disagreement and, as agreed upon, the bill leaves the closing of the navy yards to the discretion of the Sec retary of the Navy. The Republican members of the Sen ate held a fully attended caucus to-day and discussed the subject of continuing the consideration of the tax bill. With but four dissenting, the expression, of opinion prevailed that Congress should not adjourn without adopting, in some form, a bill to relieve the people from the present burdens of taxation. Se eral Senators urged the importance ol passing the knit goods bill, and it was stated that vast interests would be sac r i heed if the bill should be allowed to go over until December. On the other Baud, it was urged that, should the tax bill be laid aside for the knit goods bill .1 v u . uie JLemocrais woiuu insist upon unlimited discussion, and would weigh down the bill with all the amendments that have been of fered to the tax bill, and that to insist npon action on either bill would re sult in protracted party strife and an in definite prolongation of the session. While Senators are reticent as to the ultimate decision of the caucus, it is generally understood that a practically unanimous decision was reached to Eass the tax bill; to vote, and, if possi le, to secure a VQte, without amend ments, upon the knit goods bill. This decision, if adhered to. will postpone. perhaps indefinitely, any action on the House resolution for adjournment. DOMESTIC MARKETS. (By TeleTphto-Dally; RerleTr. J FINANCIAL.
