Our clever friend Mr. R. B' Wood,! Jr will leave for Brunswick, Goorgia, to-night, where he goes to enter into business with his brother, Mr. A. . Wood. We are sorry to say good-bye, but trust that the change will bring about an improved condition of health. Mr. Wood has beeen "ailing" for some time, and a . change is looked upon as absolutely neceesaary for a complete restoration of his health. Scooped In. Rich Stevenson bad a hearing yester day before Justice Millis, charged with the larceny of brasses from the yard of the Marine railway. The bYasses were stolen about a month ago from Capt 8. W. Skinner, but Stevenson had suc ceeded, up to yesterday, in evading the officers of the law.- He was sent to jail in default of bond for his appearance at the Criminal Court. His partner was arrested some three weeks ago and has since thou been in jail. A Change Yesterday, the double trips of the I'assvort were discontinued. Hereafter fK st(.nnipr will make only one round trip a day. leaving this city at 9 o'clock, A. M., and returning.arrive at 7 o'clock, P. M. Capt. Harper has found it nec essary to make the change in his sched ule because the work was too much for himself and crew. In the future, excur sionists and passengers will have an hour and a half longer -at Smithville, and the steamer will make her return trip to the city in the cool of the even ing. Postal Changes in this City. Mr. W. J. For an effective cure for sunstroke the iollowing is especially commended : Remove the patient to a shaded spot at once. Place the body in a sitting pos ture, the back aaainst a wall, with the feet and legs resting upon the sidewalk and extended in front or tne nouy. u ice water and a bottle of some essence of ginger. Pear the ice water over the head copiously; never mind the clothes. Then pour two or three tablespoonfuls of ginger in about half a tumbler of water and make the patient swallow it quickly. The Champion Cigar Factory. We were shown through the Cham pion Cigar Factory, of this city, yester day morning by Mr, I. Hirshberg, the Superintendent. The factory isj( the argest in the South, exclusive ot those in Baltimore and New Orleans. Twen ty experienced cigars union journey men are employed and they turn out 50,000 cigars per week, The Messrs Brunhild & Bros., who are the propri etors, are daily receiving large orders for their goods. All grades of cigars arc made in the factory. We were shown some Havana tobacco which cost $1.40 per pound. We are gratified to know that the factory is being well patronized and that the proprietors feel very much encouraged with the success of their enterprise. Foot Cut Off'. A little colored boy, whose name we could not ascertain, had his left foot cut off by a car at the W. & W. R. R de pot, on Monday afternoon. The boy, who is only about 8 years old, had stealthfully ciimbed up between two freight cars to take a ride as the yard shifting engine was about to move them. After going some distance he tried to swing down off the end of one of the cars but, his legs were not long enough to reach the ground and he rest ed his left foot on the track.when it was caught by the wheel and cut off. The unfortunate boy was quickly picked up by an employe of the road and earned to his home near by, when medical at tendance was summoned to his relief. Dr. J. C. Walker attended the boy and found it necessary to amputate the leg just below the knee, as it was badly crushed by the wheels passing over it. Criminal Court. Healthy Condition of Affairs in Louisiana. - At the 146th Grand Monthly Draw ing ot The Louisiana State lottery at New Orleans, on Tuesday, July Hth. 1883, the following result was achieved especially gratifying to the parties di rectly interested.
