Reese, of GreenviHc coun ty, by acclamation. The nominee is abaut 35 years old and an ex-member of the Virginia Legislature. The con vention adopted a resolution calling up on the Democrats throughout the Dis trict, by their votes, to defeat the Coa lition party and to condemn Ma hone, who is called a traitor to his State and a broker, trading on irgiuia's honor, and at the expense of her shame. The President of the Board of Health thinks the disease is in mild form, and the sick were re ported as doing well. A meeting of the Af ontmprv Cotton Exchange was held this evening to consider tiie advance in cotton rates by Southern railway and steam ship associations. Resolutions were unanimously adopted that the previous rates were higher than on other arti cles; that it will work to the disadvan tage and loss of Montgomery ; that it gives places doing a river business an ad vantage over those dependent on the railroads; that Eastsrn buyers cannot pay as much lor cotton, which will greatly damage, the inland markets; that it will cause our receipts to fail off, with very little profit to the railroads; that it will be a direct tax on the Drodn- cers, and greatly ii jure the trade of Montgomery and other inland cotton markets, and the South at large.
