Some days ago we published an ar
ticle relative to the fine apples raised in
the Western part of this State and yes
terday a tkipment of these apples was
received hero via tho Spartanburg &
Ashevillo R. R. There were. 18 crates
of them, holding less than one bushel
each, and tho freight was only $16.50!

freight the apples were just twelve days
in making the trip from Hcndcrsonville
to Wilmington, as long a period as
would be required to make the journey
from Liverpool" to Wilmington. Such
freights and such delays are simply in
the nature of a prohibition of trade in
tercourse between the scacoast and the
mountains. Thosamo firm to whom
the apples were consigned tell us that
they can ship oranges to New York at
50 cents a birreL

ket and Princess streets, which has
been complained of to th authorities as
dangerous, was the residence of Wil
liam Hooper, one of the signers of the
Declaration of Independence. It is one
of the oldest structures in the city and
is-a landmark of historic days. The
building, which has nearly tumbled
down from decay, will be leveled to the
ground by instruction of the authori
ties. The old poor house, which U in a
very dilapidated condition and which
has also been reported to the authori
ties as dangerous, will share the fate of
the Hooper residence. Hoth buildings
have stood tho storms of many winters
and like men when they have outlived
their usefulness arc laid away to be
numbered with tho things of the past.
The poor sufferer that ha been dos
ing himself with so-called Troches and
thereby upset his stomach without cur
ing the troublesome cough should take
