Envelopes spoiled by misdirec tion can be exchanged for postage stamps of the same denomination at the nearest postoffice. i Wo are glad to learn that Rev. Mr McnJenhall, the revivalist who is as sisting Rev. Mr. Ricaud in t he great re vival now in progress in Fifth Street M. E. Church, and who has been quite ill for the past fow days, was yesterday reported as better. We understand that the suit of Fowle & Vick vs. Kerchner& Boatwright, Which has been pending on appeal in the Supreme Court, was yesterday de cided in that court in favor of the de fendants. This suit was relative to the old Journal Publishing Company. Futures In Spirits. There were considerable operations in futures here yesterday, a somewhat unusual feature in this article. The confidence felt in its maintaining the present price, 50 cents per gallon, was shown in the fact that considerable transactions (much more than report ed) were made at these figures for the lour ensuing months, and one buyer offered to take 1,000 casks per month a 50 cents, but the offer was declined. Passion's Slave, t There was a fair audience at the Opera House last night to witness the rendition ot the above-named play, in which Mr. John A. Stevens, the author, took the principal character. The plot is one of the forty-horse power sensa tional sort. Mr. Stevens, in some of his readings, and especially as a strong man in his grief, was remarkably fine and was appreciated by tho audience. In some other parts, however, he was excruciatingly stagey. His support was very fair, but not np to the best com panies which visit our city. Oisorderlv Amos Boston, the colored shoemaker. was arrested yesterday morning and. taken to the guard house, charged with disorderly conduct. It seems that Boston had made too intimate ac qnaintance with a lot of Paddy's Hol low tangle-leg, and while under its in fluence he stormed a place of business on North Front Street and endeavored to fasten a difficulty upon a gentleman there. He was ordered out and then he continued his harangue from the street, in the middle of which ho was interrupted by the police and taken off to the guard house. Literary Club. At the meeting of this Club, last even ing, Mr. Jas. Farie. Jr., very interest ingly sketched the life of the poet Schiller and read extracts from his writings illustrative of his comments. Mr. C. n. Robinson read a cleverly written and amusing article 'on "Inan imate Things." After the literary ex ercises, an election of officers was held. resulting as follows : President Moj. J. W.Dunham, (re elected). Vice-President G. II. Smith, (re elected). Secretary and Treasurer Jas. Farie, Jr." The next regular meeting will beheld November 14th. Special Premiums. We are indebted to Mr. O. L. Ches nutt, Secretary of the Sampson County Agricultural Society, for the following list of special premiums donated by business men in this city for the next Fair of the Society, to be held at Clin ton November 15th, 16th. 17th and ISth. Others, says Mr. Chesntt will hand in their lists in a day or two, when they will also be furnished for publication : W. E. Springer & Co., iron and hardware merchants, Wilmington, N. C. one Grant fan mill, for the best ex hibition of small grain. Hall & Pearsall, wholesale grocers, sttt Wilmington. N. Anything in the hardware line can be found at reasonable prices at Jaoo si's. t DaiiI Eeviev. Disappointment in matters of pleasure is hard to be borne, in matters affecting health it becomes cruel. Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup never disappoints those who use it for obstinate coughs, colds, irritation of throat and lungs, etc. .List of Letters.
