The Western Union Telegraph Com pany is supplying its linemen with what is termed tbe railroad velocipede, a novel little machine, self-propelling and adjustable for any gauge of railroad, with which the repairer can reach quick ly any break or interruption to the wires (for it can make twenty miles an hour) thus doing away with a loss of time waiting for schedule trains, when breaks are near at hand. The machine will convey twe men and all necessary tools. It will prove invaluable for quick repairs and the removal of trou ble on the wires. The Kail way Case. The application against the Midland Railway Company, spoken of in these columns yesterday, was heard before Judge McRae, in Chambers, at the Purcell House last evening. It was on an application made by Capt. Appleton Oaksmith, for the appointment of a receiver for the road. Mr. W. W Clark, of Newborn, appeared for Capt. Oaksmith, and Maj. John Hughes and Hon. C. R. Thomas, also of Newborn, appeared for the road. The application for the appointment of a receiver was refused by Judge McRae, but three injunctions were is sued; one restraining the First National Bank of Newborn from disposing of the bonds deposited by Mr. Be6t, except for payment to the Atlantic & North Carolina R. R. Company in accordance with the terms of the lease; a second restraining the Midland Railway Com pany from disposing of any of the prop erty et the road of any kind and in any way, or in any wise encumbering the property of tho road, except for running expenses, which, however, does not in terfere with a surrender of the road; and a third, against tbe Midland Im provement and Construction Company and W. J. Best, W. W. Carruth. J. P. Caddigan and W, S. Denny, to prevent the transfer of the stock alleged to have been fraudulently issued by the Mid land Railway Company and restrain ing them from voting that stock. Tbe suit was brought!, as we have stated, by Capt. Oaksmith, and the stockholders of the Atlantic and North Carolina R. R. Company are not known in it.
