It is thought that she will lose the sight of one. if not both of her eyes. It is our painful duty to announce thej de?ith of Mr. Ed ward Waters, who departed this Jifc onWednesday last at his residence in Wilson. Mr. Waters had beena great suilercr for the last! six months from a cancer on his tongue: 4-An old col ored man by the name of Aycrs, of in dustrious habits, living in Spring Hill Township, was lound dead in his yard one day last weelc. As there were no signs of violence, his death isjsupposed to have resulted lrom natural causes. -r- ; , alter S. Nelson,! Esq., Monroe X. C, says: - '-In one week Brown's Iron t rates Mr Boykm said for the committee. that they looketl on the bill as class legislation. One gentleman said to him that the bill was' meant? for political .effect; he hoped it would be tabled. Mr Strayhorn thought a man should ordy.be deputized in special cases. There id no responsibility behind depu tized constables, and if the merchants and citizens of Wilmington wished it, it was as little as we could do to pass it. Mr Scott, of New Hanover, said it ,seemed impossible for a Republican to Set a bill through unless it was charged by the other tsiuo as a political measure. He urged tho passage T the bill. .It would be the greatest blessing in the world, if instead of these magistrates in Wilmington, sitting , in their olliccs prqying on the people? by their special runners, . they could have two good magistrates for the city who were paid a good salary.- This is why the best mea in Wilmington signed that petition to get rid of this curse; there , is no politics in it. Mr Watson said tho statement of the. Senator from New Hanover had stirred up a warm place in his bosom ; it re minded him of the .appeal coming up from the West to get rid of the revenue men ; he thought he should vote for the bill. ! Mr Boykin said one reason the com mittee had for adversely reporting on it was the fact that there was a general bill on the subject. Mr StrayHorn offered a substitute ltmitins: tho power of justices only to special cases for deputizing constables. All the matter was recommitted to the judiciary committee. Bill to establish a graded school-.at Lumberton, in Kobeson county. The .Senator from Robeson offered amend ments, which were adopted and the bill passed third reading. Mr Linney asked that the bill re ported back concerning the State's interest in the Cape Fear and Yadkin Railroad b made special order for Wednesday next at 11 o'clock. Granted. She has passed c number of winters in Wash ington, and was a friend of thes former Mrs. Davis. Miss Burr lived; at the National Hotel. There; she met the Judge and his wife. Tvvo years ago Judge Davis went to' Saratoga for his health. He there met Miss Burr for the first time since his wife's death.
