" Mr Green, of New, Hanover, to amend as follows: 4Provided that tho country wagons and carts shall not be required at ihd city of Wilmington later than 11 o'clock, a. m., alter which time tho said wagons and carts may bedrir cn through the streets of Wilminstoiiltbr too purpose ot selling toe remaining marketable products. , Mr Green said that tho carts and wagons had heretofore been permitted to take the perishable articles through the city to sell to families and he hoped thia old privilege would not now be taken away. Mr Stanford opposed the amend ment, lie had seen numbers of carts and wagons on the streets of Wilmins ton at ail hours witu perishable pro ducein them. Mr McLean offered an amendment requiring sixty da a' residence continu- - onslv in the town be I ore a man could vote, and scut forward two memorials against the bill, which were read. The amendment was adopted and the bill passed third reading. House resolution asking the Chief Justice and tho Associate Justices ot the Supreme Court to give the General Assembly their opinion as to the day in March. 1883. on which the sixty days session, sperffied in sec: ion 28, article 2, of the constitution, will" expire, came up for concurrence. Mr Horich said that. this resolution amounted to asking the Supreme Court to say that, we were entitled to pay for . Sunday. It was not a matter of public interest. We were entitled to pay for . sixty dj s, and if we did . not get through It was tho duty of every Senator here to remain longer, as was done two anil four years ago. Any member unwill ing to do this rai unworthy of his seat, lie moved to table tho resolution. It was tabled. Another amend ment provides to ind:ct that class ot able bodied persons able to work but won t, and who won t pay their taxes, making it a misdemeanor. Air Payne said that the motion of the Fenator Irom New Hanover to refnr the bill to the committee on proposi tions and grievances evidently showed : a purposw to antagonize this bill.
