Tn compli ance wilb the terms of a resolntion adopted by a convention of colored people of the District of Columbia, which met in thi3 city on Kmr.nctpation Day, a call has been issued for a nation al convention of colored men. to be held in Washington on the 24th of September, 1883." The call, .which is signed by a committee of vfiich 1- red Douglass is chairman, directs the hold ing of conventions in the several States and the election of delegates lrom the States as follows : Alabama, 24 ; (eor tia. 29: North Carolina. -22; . bouth Carolina, 25; Virginia, 25; Mississippi. 26 ; Louisiana, 26 ; Tennessee and 1 cxa. each 9; Kentucky, 11; Arkansas ana Maryland, each 9; Missouri 6;-Honda And Delegare, District of Columbu, Illinois, Indiana. Kansas, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia, each Pennsylvania and Ohio, each 4; Cali fornia, Colorado, Nebraska, Connecti cut. Iowa, llhbdc Island, Maine, Michi gan, Massachusetts and Minnesota, each 1; in all 288. The Convention is called for the con sideration of the present and future condition of the colored people of this country and of the best method of se curing to them the full enjoyment ol their social and political rights. Capture of Counterfeiters.- New YoRk, April 28. A raid on-alleged counterfeiters and persons deal ing in counterfeit money was made last night by special agent Drummond and U. S. Deputy Marshals Bcrnhard and Deuber. The following named persons were arrested : George L. Stauley, of 511 East 94th street, the alleged manu facturer of thousands of ' trade and "Brand" dollars. He fought desperate ly, but wa3 subdued; Mathew .J. Roo ney, Hugh Curry , Thomas Ililcy and Thomas II. Kearney and his reputed wife, Lena; Patrick Smith aud Mrs. Jennie Uoldcn. ; She is the wife of Jim Holden, who is now serving a , term at the prison at Norristown. Pa., for pass ing counterfeit money. Smith was ar raigned before U. S. Commissioner Shields, and held in $2,500 ban. Mrs. Holden was held in $1,000 bail for passing counterfeit trade dollars tipon Daniel McSweeney. She prolaimed her innocence and protested that she never before laid eyes on her accuser. The operations of tho gang. -have ex tended through Pennsylvania. Now Jersey, Kentucky, Virginia. .Maryland and this State v Commissioner Kaum. Washington, April 28,T-Mr. Green B. Raum, Commissioner of Internal Revenue, to-day tendered his resigna tion to the President, to take effect on the 30th inst.. and it has been accepted. This action on the part of Mr. llaum was occasioned simply by a desire to re-enter private life and engage in the practice ot his former profession the law Ue had been Commissioner 6 - years and 9 months. The resignation was sent to the President accompanied . by a statement of these reasons. Im mediately after the resignation became public, Mr. W. T. Clark, the Chiet Clerk to the Commissioner, resigned. He remarked that he would not stay in the ofilce five minutes after the Com missioner vacated. , -. A story reached-thecity last night that a colored man had been hung by his wife aud another negro man in Hyde county under the following circumstances: The wife entered into a conspiracy with this man to get rid of her husband, and fixed a rope through the upper floor of the house while the husband was ab sent, and when he returned home the Wife met him at the door and greeted him with kisses, and decoyed him under the hole, while the man on the upper floor dropped the nooie over his! head ; then the wife held her husband's hands and he pulled the rope. When they thought he was dead, they todK him down and dragged him off, covered him up for dead.' When they had left the old fellow, like Sindbab the sailor, he scratched out.
