The Republican party, soys the At

Senator Sherman does not look either
lor an extraordinary tote in Ohio or for
such a Republican majority as will re

will bo a heavy vote for prohibition,

This fs from the Dubuque Herald:
"As the bugle's blast has died away,

the Republican loom has constantly

elements entitling it te a long reign."

The Atlanta Constitution takes the
view that a Southern man" on the Presi

South are bound up in the Democratic

Gladstone never will be a duke, it is

The Chicago Timis believes that the

Lillian Spencer,
The "Creole-1 1 will be presented at the
Opera House to-night, and in all proba
bility to a very lare audience. Our
exchanges, generally, speak in terms of
warm commendation of the troupe
and the New York Harald says of her
personally: s
She is a very beautiful girl of about
2a years of age. possessing a lithe,
graceful figure, and with the handsom
est eyes I and teeth it was ever the
writer's pleasure to behold. Her per
formance was indeed a masterpiece, of
genius.
Miss Spencer played in Raleigh on
Friday night, and to a large house. The
Visitor warmly commends both Miss
Spencer and the troupe.

MISS II ATTIF HARDY Written In Fifth
Street M. E. Chitrch, Sunday, evening, Oct.
7th, .
Ami are we brought to this sail hour,
To meet, to sihg, to kneel, to pray.
And she, dear friend poor withered flower
io dear to us so far away.
So far away in death's dark night,
Cut off in life's fair youthful bloom,
ForeTcr hid f rm mortal sight j
And coldly mouldering in the tomb.
Poor stricken heart, bowed down with grief,
No burning words hath power to tell
Where wilt thou tnm to find relief,
And canst thou canst thou, say farewell
Alas! thou must be still, poor heart,
ioa under Ilia afliictine rod.
She sweetly sleeps though tear drops start
Beneath the cold and silent sod.
The dear form sleeps but, glorisus thought,
liar spirit soars on wings of 1 jtc,
And by a Saviour's power she's brought
To share a happier home abve.
Iook up, poor heart, bowed down with grief ;
Thou canst not Wok to nim in vain ;
Eternal love shall bring relief,
And parted friends shall meet again.
