The fugitive quickened his steps a little and had gotten . about two-thirds of the way across when a match was lighted by those whom be bad just parsed and one of them blew a thistle, and looking, forward ho saw two other men enter the bridge and come toward him from the Fender side Hero he was In a trap, but he dodged quickly to one side and concealed him self as much as possible by the side of a largo po3t and the men passed him, looking neither to the right nor left, so sure wcro they of his capture. After the men had passed him a lew spaces he quickly slipped from bis hiding place and with light and rapid steps was soon on the Tender side of the bridge and in a short timo among friends and free from present danger ofcapturc.
