Tf lis plan was adopted and arly ia the
night the fugitive beard voices, and in
a few moments two or three men came
and sat down on iho very log in which
bo was concealed. While there the men
discussed the matter of searching tbo
house that night, but finally coucluded
to wait until the next night as it was
thought that then tho fugitive would be
more certain to be there. They then
left and the fugitive, being possessed of
their plans, after wailing until all was
still, crept out of tbc log and, going to
the bouse, informed his friend of .what
he bad heard. The latter then advised
him to go at once to Rocky
Point. . and gave him the
proper directions how to feet there.
The fugitive started off. but by some
mishap he lost bis way and when day
was breaking he found himself In the
suburbs ot Wilmington. He then took
tbe railroad track which he followed
to near Castle Hayne, when he took to
tbe woods and remained In hiding until
darkness should come, fearing that
parties might bo watching for him at
tbe bridge orer tho Northeast river. A
short time after dark be started again
and when within a few rods of the
bridge ho passed two men. one of whom
be heard remark, just as he entered the
bridge, "I'll bet that's one of them fel
low, now!" The fugitive quickened
his steps a little and had gotten . about
two-thirds of the way across when a
match was lighted by those whom be
bad just parsed and one of them blew a
thistle, and looking, forward ho saw
two other men enter the bridge and
come toward him from the Fender side
Hero he was In a trap, but he dodged
quickly to one side and concealed him
self as much as possible by the side of
a largo po3t and the men passed him,
looking neither to the right nor left, so
sure wcro they of his capture. After
the men had passed him a lew spaces
he quickly slipped from bis hiding place
and with light and rapid steps was soon
on the Tender side of the bridge and in

Iu speaking of this play, which is to
be presented at the - Opera Houso tor
morrow night, tbe Buffalo Krprus says i
Everybody votes the play one of the
funniest over brought out here. How
so much that is ludicrous can be crowd
ed into a two hours' performance is the
wnndp.r of sDocLators. From the mo
ment the players are well introduced
until tbo enrtaiu falls for the laat time
there U one roar of laugher and round
of applause. Very little time is taken
for shifting scenery in the three acta,
and there is no time thrown away in
leading up to tha climax. It Is touch
and go. after tha manner of fireworks,
from, first to last. Few plays of tbe
sort are as pleasing throughout.
