THE ST AH OF 15ETULEUE3I.
Said to Have JJecn Loca ted by
Astronomical Observers Its
Next Appearance.
Tho theory concerning the 'Star of
Bethlehem" is based I on a poetical
foundation, having little to support it.
la tho yar 157J Tycho JJrahe, a Dutch
astronomer, discovered a new t tar near
Caob, in the constellation Cassiopeia.
It increased in brilliancy until it was
as bright as Venus, and could easily bo
seen at noonday. It continued to shine
brightly for a month, then gradually
grew dim, and in sixteen months dis
appeared from view. It was looked
upon as a new creation, or n sun on
fire, and tho general opinion was that
it would never again shine in the star
depths. , '
Forty years later the telescope was
invented. When it was tamed to the
position in the heavens occupied by the
blazing star, a minute star was found
near the identical spot. This telescopic
star I still there, and is doubtless the
same one that blazed forth in 1572. The
discovery that it existed led 1 astrono
mers to search astronomical records.
and it was found that similar bright
stars bad appeared in the same region
of the sky in 1)15 and 12C1. Counting
back three periods from vl5 we are
bronght to the near vicinity of the birth
of Christ. Observers gifted with poetic
fancies have naturally connected the
two events, and have inferred that the
star in the east, pointing to tho placo of
the nativity, was a sudden outburst ot
his wonderful star, tor this reason it
has received the name of the Star of
Bethlehem. I
About twenty-four of these tempo
rary stars have appeared in the last
2.000 years, subject, like the star in
Cassiopeia, to sudden outbursts, ioi
lowed by a return lo their normal int
significant. They are now classed as
variable stars, subicct to sudden out
burst?, due to eruptions of blazing hy
drogen, and which are followed by long
periods ot quiesence. According to this
theory, the star ot 1572 is a variable
star, with a period of a few more than
300 years. The last period was 303
years, if the bright star of 1VG1 was one
and tho same: wo may. therefore, nope
for a repetition of the incomprehensible
phenomenon in toe immcdiato lulure.
Abe star was due in 1580; if it appears
at all it will surely blaze forth by IB83.
There is a nussibiTilv. therefore, that
the long-lost Star of Bethlehem, the
Tilgrim Star, the star 1572. or Tvcho
Brahe's star for it is. known by, all
these names will once moro become a
saining wonder in the sky. bucn a
celestial visitor will bo warmly wel
corned by'astronomcrs, and be far more
acceptable than a great comet spanning
tho heavens with its gossamer tail.

An Undoubted Dlesslu.
About thirty years ago a prominent
i
bysician by tbe name of Dr. William
lall discovered or produced after Ions
experimental research, a remedy for
diseases of tho throat, chest, and lungs.
which was of such wonderful eflicacy
that it soon gained a wide reputation in
Ibis country. The name of tho medicine
is DR. WM. IIALIS BALSAM FOR
THE LUNGS, and may bo safely re
lied on as a speedy and , positive cure
for coughs, colds, sore throat, etc
liisninrck's Best Medal.
Prince Bismarck isi represented as
often sajing, ot all his decorations, that
upon which he sets most value is a
medal he received from a numane
society for rescuing a drowuing soldier.
His method ot rescue, as we. see it re
lated, was eminently characteristic of
the man. Tbe soldier clung to him in
such a manner as to endanger both
their lives. Bismarck, being the
stronger of the two, held the terrified
man's head under water until he ceased
to struggle and then swam with him
to shallow water, from which ' he con-t
veyed him to tbe shore.
Baldness may be avoided by the nse
of Hall's Hair llenewer. which prevents
tbe fallingout ottbe hair.acd stimulates
it to renewed growtn and luxuriance.
It also restores faded or gray hair to its
original dark color, and radically cures
nearly every disease of the scalp.
"Where are tou going. Ernest?" she
asked him as be rose between tho acts
at the theater, one evening , last week.
He: "I promised to meet Simpson
wren ihe curtain fell." Sbd: "Can't
you bring me a glass of Simpson, too,
darling?" Erue$t coughs and tries to
smile; then sits down again, and looks
discontented for the rest of the evening.

Tho Safest and Best Interal
Remedy.
It is safe to take Brandhetii's Pills
at anv time, but to get the best result
tbey should bo taken on an empty
stomacb, going to bed. It is well on
the night you take them to eat little or no
supper. As so two people are affected
precisely, the same by a like quantity of
the same medicine, it is difficult to de
termine the dose: and it is something
wnich must be left to tbe discretion ot
the patients. We will say, though, the
average dose for an adult is from four
to ten, according to effect. ;
for uonsupaiion or uyspepsta, one
or two taken every night will, in a
short time, perform an absolute cure.
It is well to take a purgative at least
one or twice a month as a preventive
of disease, and as these Pills are entire
ly vegetable,-and are made with the
greatest care, wo know them to be the
safest and most effective purgative eyer
