mute suddenly from a srroke of
piralys's. She was the widow of
the late John W. Ilarman. a
former - sheriff of this county,
who is so well remembered by all our
older citizens. Mrs. Ilarman with her
husband, many years ago, kept a hotel
at this place, at Fayetteville and at
Wilmington and was well known to
the Ira veiling public. A tow weeks
ago we announced that a man in Bear'
Creek township, namedBryan Hilliard,
had nearly killed his infant, only a few
months old. The child recovered, but,
on Tuesday last, Dr. L. A Hanks, the
coroner of the county, received inform
ation the child had died suddenly and
it was thought its brute of a father had
choke d it to death. The coroner and
sheriff Brewer at once left here for the
purpose of holding an inquest. The in
quest was duty held, and the jury
thought that the evidence justified Ihem
in committing the fatherlo jail for trial
at the next term of our superior court,
and at a late hour last night he was
brousht here and committed tojail.
